  • Patent number: 5209726
Abstract: A self-lubricating urethral catheter and method for self-catheterization includes a flexible sheath enclosing a perforated tube. The catheter has an insertion end and a discharge end as well as a cavity between the sheath and the tube. The cavity and conduit in the tube is filled with lubricating fluid and sealed at the discharge end. The insertion end of the catheter is inserted into a urethra. When the catheter is inserted, the sheath collapses into the tube forcing fluid in the cavity through the aperture, into the conduit and out the insertion end. This fluid being expelled lubricates the catheter as it is inserted. After the catheter is fully inserted the seal is removed from the discharge end allowing fluid and urine in the bladder to flow through the catheter.

  • Patent number: 5019060
Abstract: A liquid collection device for use with various surgical procedures to control and monitor the rate of flow of liquid from one or more body cavities such as the pleural and/or mediastinal cavities comprising a liquid collection section including an upper liquid flow rate monitoring chamber coupled to the body cavity by a fluid conduit to receive a predetermined volume of fluid to a lower liquid accumulation reservoir when the predetermined volume of liquid is received therein and a pressure control/liquid isolation section coupled to a vacuum source to control the flow of liquid from the body cavity through the fluid conduit at a predetermined pressure.

  • Patent number: 4932769
Abstract: An adjustable auxiliary planar rear view mirror for use in combination with a primary outside rear view mirror to increase the driver's field of vision comprising an outer mirror mounting member including an inclined retainer and an intermediate coupling member including an inclined support to operatively support a planar reflective element therebetween at an angle of substantially ten degrees relative to the central axis or the adjustable auxiliary planar rear view mirror mounting member, and an inner attachment member to rotatably mount the planar reflective element on the primary outside rear view mirror.

  • Patent number: 4792335
Abstract: A pressure controlled valve apparatus for use with a catheterized bladder or the like to selectively control fluid flow therefrom comprising a fluid reservoir including a primary fluid reservoir chamber and a secondary fluid reservoir chamber in open fluid communication relative to each other to receive fluid from the catheterized bladder and a fluid flow control including a primary control valve and a secondary control valve each selectively movable between a first and second position, the primary control valve disposed to seal the primary fluid reservoir chamber when in the first position and to unseal the primary fluid reservoir chamber when in the second position in response to a first predetermined pressure to release fluid from the catheterized bladder and the primary fluid reservoir chamber to a fluid collection container and the secondary control valve disposed to seal the secondary fluid reservoir chamber when in the first position and to unseal the secondary fluid reservoir chamber when in the secon

  • Patent number: 4420438
Abstract: Carburetor throttle valve apparatus for an internal combustion engine and a method of modifying a carburetor throttle valve are provided. The apparatus includes a pair of spherical segments with center openings for attaching to either side of the existing throttle plate and throttle shaft. The segments are grooved on one side to fit the throttle shaft and once attached, the throttle valve has a generally lenticular shape acting as an air foil to prevent excessive turbulence and recondensation of atomized fuel. A method of attaching the throttle valve includes removing a portion of the carburetor, attaching a jig, drilling an aperture for the attachment of the added throttle plates, making the spherical segments and attaching the segments to the existing throttle and reattaching the carburetor to the engine.

  • Patent number: 4018228
Abstract: A surgical punch instrument having an elongated, hollow sleeve with an elongated rod sliding therein and extending through one end of the hollow sleeve. The elongated rod has a narrowed end portion and fixed cylindrical blade attached thereto while the open end of the hollow sleeve has a hollow, cylindrical blade removably attached thereto. The sliding rod may be actuated by a handle attached thereto and extending through the elongated sleeve to pull the blade on the end of the rod into the hollow blade in the hollow sleeve thereby shearing or punching an opening in tissue therebetween.
