  • Patent number: 5782427
Abstract: Tandem-engine aircraft propulsion module attachable to an aircraft fuselage and/or to the aircraft wings directly. This propulsion module contains fore-and-aft in-line engines and an intermediate fuel compartment. A subhousing of this module has engine instrumentation and controls placed for overhead introduction into an underlying aircraft fuselage cabin when the module is secured on top thereof. Propulsion modules of this invention are readily removable and replaceable for ease of inspection and maintenance, and if like-sized are mutually interchangeable. These modules are inherently economical and enable cost-effective fuselage and dry-wing construction. They also enhance flight safety, not only in comparison with single-engine aircraft but also especially as compared with off-axial twin-engine aircraft.

  • Patent number: 4798137
Abstract: A method and apparatus for conversion of a web fed letterpress unit (10) into a web fed offset printing press unit (42) having a main frame (12) an auxiliary frame (44) inside the main frame for receiving cylinders, a pair of offset plate cylinders (46 and 46a) for mounting printing plates thereon, an inking arrangement (16, 18 and 20) for applying films of ink to the plates, and a pair of blanket cylinders (48 and 48a) in close proximity to a position for respective rolling contact with the plates on the plate cylinder and the other blanket cylinder. An offset press gear train (114) is installed outside the frames if the shafts for the cylinders can be extended through the bores (56, 56a, 58, 58a, 76 and 112) in the main frame left from the removed letterpress unit cylinders. Otherwise the gear train (54) is placed inside the main frame. Pilots (60, 60a, 62 and 62a) for insertion into bores in the main frame guide the installation of the auxiliary frame.

  • Patent number: 4445881
Abstract: An improvement in the method and apparatus for folding newspaper in the "collect" mode. Inside and outside web sections are printed with the same number of lines and transferred to a folding cylinder which collects them in overlapping relation. Expanding means incorporated in the body of the cylinder expand its effective radius to permit the trailing edge of the outside section to be cut to a length equal to that of the inside section without recutting the inside section. The collected sections are then passed through second fold rollers for final folding.
