  • Publication number: 20130105596
Abstract: A rotating deflector for use with a rotary sprinkler in accordance with an embodiment of the present disclosure includes a conical body, a plurality of channels formed on a bottom surface of the conical body and extending from a center of the conical body outward toward an outer edge of the conical body, and a deflector ring rotatably mounted on the conical body such that the deflector ring rotates from a first position in which the deflector ring provides additional rotational force for rotation of the deflector and a second position in which the deflector ring provides substantially no rotational force for rotation of the deflector.

  • Publication number: 20120153051
Abstract: An irrigation sprinkler and sprinkler nozzle assembly including a self contained pressure regulator and flow control ring, which can be assembled with a desired spray deflector, shrub bubbler or rotating stream distributor on the top of the nozzle assembly. The pressure regulator housing is incorporated into the center of the nozzle assembly and includes a reference pressure chamber connected to atmospheric pressure with a spring bias enclosed to bias a pressure responsive movable member that is connected to an upstream pressure balanced flow throttling valve. A combination deflector pop-up pressure regulating mechanism housed in the filter of the nozzle housing assembly is also shown.

  • Publication number: 20120118405
Abstract: A sprinkler assembly including a pressure regulator and a flow stop element combined in a single assembly. In one embodiment, the sprinkler includes a sprinkler body in fluid communication with a water supply to provide water to the sprinkler, a riser movably mounted in the sprinkler body and in fluid communication with the sprinkler body such that the riser rises up and out of the sprinkler body when water is provided to the sprinkler, a nozzle assembly mounted on a top end of the riser and in fluid communication with the riser; and a regulation element mounted in the riser and in contact with a portion of the nozzle assembly. The nozzle assembly holds the regulation member in an open position to allow flow of water to the nozzle assembly and to maintain a substantially constant water pressure in the nozzle assembly.

  • Patent number: 8136743
Abstract: A flow shut off or throttling valve is provided in a sprinkler nozzle housing to enable a nozzle to be changed without having to turn off a flow pressure source. The valve intersects a flow path through the nozzle housing and has an opening such that when the opening is aligned with the flow path, a flow stream can flow unobstructed through the flow path. The valve is movable between a fully open position in which the opening is aligned with the flow path and a closed position which blocks the flow stream from flowing to a nozzle disposed at an outlet passage of the flow path. The valve may be constructed to be either slidable or rotatable between the two positions, and is actuated by a gearing arrangement which is operable at the exterior of the nozzle housing. The external valve actuator may function as a physical barrier to retain the removable nozzle in the nozzle housing when the valve is open and to disengage the nozzle when the valve is closed.

  • Patent number: 7232107
Abstract: A diaphragm operated valve having the diaphragm attached at its lower end to a valve closure plug, and movable therewith, and attached at its upper end to a portion of valve body that forms the pressure cavity. The diaphragm has a stepped portion between its upper and lower ends which folds back on itself when the valve opens. The valve body has shoulder portions that support the diaphragm when the valve is closed to avoid stressing the diaphragm material due to pressure in the pressure chamber. This allows the outside diameter of the diaphragm to be minimized, and eliminates the need for fabric reinforcement. A filter screen is positioned flush with the surface of the valve plug so that high velocity flow across the screen while the valve is opening and closing removes accumulated dirt thereby making the screen self cleaning.

  • Patent number: 7134613
Abstract: A turbine assembly for a rotary sprinkler head includes a flow control valve, a turbine housing having a fluid inlet and fluid outlet ports, and a rotor mounted in the housing. The flow control valve is moveable between a closed position and a maximum open position, and is spring biased towards the closed position in which all of the fluid flowing into the sprinkler head initially flows into the turbine assembly. When the flow rate through the sprinkler head is sufficient to open the valve, a portion of the fluid flow passes through the valve to bypass the turbine assembly. As the flow rate continues to increase, the valve opens further until it reaches the maximum open position. Once the valve is opened to a predetermined point, as it opens further, up to the maximum position, the valve also increasingly throttles the fluid outlet ports up to a point short of complete blockage of the outlet ports.
