  • Publication number: 20160346423
Abstract: Radiopaque medical cyanoacrylate compositions including a cyanoacrylate monomer; and a radiopacifier including nanoparticles having a mean size of less than about 15 nanometers (nm), wherein the nanoparticles do not substantially agglomerate within the composition at about 20 degrees Celsius (° C.), and wherein the composition has a viscosity of between about 1,000 centipoise (cP) and about 2,000 cP.

  • Publication number: 20150044091
Abstract: A method for sterilizing a cyanoacrylate composition comprises exposing it to microwaves. The method can further comprise post-heating the composition after microwave exposure, and/or cooling the composition after post-heating it. In addition, a system for sterilizing a cyanoacrylate composition comprises a sterilizing chamber, a microwave generator. The system can further comprise an infrared thermometer, a post-heating chamber, a heater thermometer, a cooling mechanism, and/or a belt. In some embodiments, the belt is configured to move sample vials containing cyanoacrylate to and from the sterilizing chamber, and to and from the post-heating chamber.

  • Publication number: 20130011589
Abstract: The viscosities of 2-cyanoacrylate adhesive compositions are adjusted by the addition of polymeric thickeners to a preferred initial viscosity that will not increase significantly when sterilized by heating them at a temperature of no greater than about 110° C. for no more than about 120 minutes. Articles of manufacture are vials or squeezable tubes containing these compositions.

  • Publication number: 20120128903
Abstract: Adhesive 2-cyanoacrylate compositions are adjusted to a preferred initial viscosity of 400 to 600 centipoises by the addition of polycyanoacrylate thickeners, and are sterilized in a preferred method by heating them at a temperature of no greater than about 110° C. for no more than about 120 minutes. Articles of manufacture are vials or squeezable tubes made of compatible glass, aluminum, or plastic.

  • Patent number: 8110144
Abstract: Disclosed are processes for sterilization of cyanoacrylate adhesive compositions, the compositions, comprising 2-cyanoacrylate ester monomers, so produced and a method for assaying the effectiveness of the sterilization process. The process comprises heating the adhesive composition to from about 70° C. to about 140° C. for an effective amount of time. The effectiveness of the process can be assayed by disposing bacterial spores in the cyanoacrylate monomer, exposing the composition to a dry heat sterilization process, transferring the cyanoacrylate composition to a sterile aldose solution, transferring and exposing the sample to a nutrient medium which supports germination and growth of viable spores, incubating the samples, and determining the presence or absence of growth.

  • Publication number: 20100213096
Abstract: The viscosity of 2-cyanoacrylate monomer based adhesives is increased by combining the monomers with suitable thickeners according to a certain process. The resulting formulations may be heat sterilized without degrading the viscosity or causing premature polymerization. The effectiveness of the sterilization process is assayed by disposing bacterial spores in the formulation, exposing it to a dry heat sterilization process, transferring it to a sterile aldose solution, transferring and exposing the sample to a nutrient medium which supports germination and growth of viable spores, incubating the samples, and determining the presence or absence of growth.

Abstract: Disclosed are processes for sterilization of cyanoacrylate adhesive compositions; the compositions, comprising 2-cyanoacrylate ester monomers, so produced and a method for assaying the effectiveness of the sterilization process. A typical process comprises heating the adhesive composition to from about 70° C. to about 140° C. for an effective amount of time. The effectiveness of a process can be assayed by disposing bacterial spores in the cyanoacrylate monomer, exposing the composition to a dry heat sterilization process, transferring the cyanoacrylate composition to a sterile aldose solution, transferring and exposing the sample to a nutrient medium which supports germination and growth of viable spores, incubating the samples, and determining the presence or absence of growth.
