Patent number: 8761941Abstract: A medical device and a method for displaying medical data by the medical device are disclosed. In one aspect of the disclosure, a method for displaying medical data by a medical device having a display device and one or more processors is disclosed. The method includes monitoring a condition of the display device and determining, at the medical device, whether the display device is in a failure state based on the monitoring, the failure state being indicative of a malfunction of the display device. When the display device is a failure state, the method includes commanding a slave device to display the medical data and providing the medical data from the medical device to the slave device for display by the mobile device.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 2012Date of Patent: June 24, 2014Assignee: Roche Diagnostics Operations, Inc.Inventors: Carol J. Batman, Michel A. Cadio, Randy J. Gardner, Paul S. Rutkowski, Mark W. Voth

Patent number: 8658108Abstract: A limited-use blood glucose meter includes a printed circuit board assembly that includes a power source, a strip port, a strip reading device, a controller device, a bi-stable display, and a display controller. The strip reading measures a reaction between a blood sample present on the blood glucose test strip and the blood glucose reagent, generates a blood glucose signal, and calculates a blood glucose level. The controller device receives the blood glucose level from the strip reading device. The controller device provides display instructions to the display controller and the display controller provides drive voltages to the bi-stable segments such that the bi-stable segments persistently display the most-recent blood glucose level. The strip reading device performs a predetermined number of blood glucose tests and calculates a blood glucose level only for blood glucose strips associated with the disposable blood glucose meter.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 2010Date of Patent: February 25, 2014Assignee: Roche Diagnostics Operations, Inc.Inventors: Matthew C. Sauers, Robert G. Davies, Colleen Csavas, Carol J. Batman, Paul S. Rutkowski, Randy J. Gardner, Michael J. Blackburn, Michel A. Cadio

Publication number: 20100331650Abstract: A blood glucose monitoring system with a graphical user interface (GUI) and methods of controlling the system and performing episodic blood glucose testing using the GUI are disclosed. The system can comprise the GUI, an output display for displaying the GUI, user interfaces, a memory and a processor. An episodic blood glucose testing protocol can be programmed into the processor using the user interfaces and automatically saved into memory. A user can be alerted to test blood glucose levels based on the inputted testing protocol by the display of an alert icon on the GUI. Blood glucose level results can be received, displayed on the GUI along with a range icon and automatically saved into memory. Statistics of the saved blood glucose results can be calculated by the processor and saved into memory. The statistics can be retrieved for display on the GUI when prompted by the user.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 25, 2009Publication date: December 30, 2010Applicant: ROCHE DIAGNOSTICS OPERATIONS, INC.Inventors: Carol J.
