  • Patent number: 5695777
Abstract: A wound dressing for use with exuding wounds includes (a) an outer vapor permeable layer permitting transpiration of fluid from the dressing; (b) an intermediate layer of hydrogel adapted for absorbing wound exudate; (c) a wound-contacting layer for separating the intermediate hydrogel layer from the wound; (d) wicking means associated with the wound-contacting layer for conducting exudate from the wound to the hydrogel; and (e) a therapeutic agent retained in the dressing by the wound-contacting layer.

  • Patent number: 5173302
Abstract: Novel hydrogel formulations useful as adhesive reservoirs for topical or transdermal drugs employ as the polymer base a crosslinked polymer or copolymer of 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid or a salt thereof. The gels are prepared from polymerizable compositions comprising:20%-50% of a monofunctional monomer component, at least 75% of said component comprising 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid or a salt thereof, the balance being selected from the group consisting of acrylic acid, water soluble acrylic functional monomers and vinyl pyrrolidone;30%-50% of a glycol component selected from the group consisting of compounds of the formulaHO--(C.sub.2 H.sub.4 O).sub.n --H,HO--(C.sub.3 H.sub.6 O).sub.m --Hand mixtures thereof, where n is in the range of about 4 to about 16 and m is 1-4;between about 0.02% and about 0.

  • Patent number: 4593053
Abstract: Novel, hydrophilic, skin-compatible, pressure sensitive, solid, adhesive gel hydrogel composition comprising 25 to 50 weight percent polyvinyl pyrolidone (PVP) preferably having a molecular weight in the range of about 100,000 to 600,000, 2 to 5 weight percent polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) preferably having a molecular weight in the range of about 150,000 to 300,000, about 5 to about 40 weight percent humectant, about 3 to about 50 weight percent water, about 0 to about 50 weight percent of an ionic species. In a preferred aspect, the composition of the invention is utilized in an iontophoresis device to provide a hydrophilic gel matrix from which a drug is iontophoretically delivered.
