  • Patent number: 6339941
Abstract: A chest for cooling glass plates. A box is formed from a rigid support having at least a side panel on which are fixed nozzles. Each nozzle is made of two plate flanges and a strap perforated with blow holes. The flanges are made in a single piece having tabs folded in the direction of the neighboring flanges. Elements fixing the flanges mutually and fixing the straps to the flanges are produced by riveting or interposition of a sealant.

  • Patent number: 5830253
Abstract: A straight-through furnace for the heating of glass sheets to their bending and/or toughening temperature is provided with a conveying system bringing the glass sheets (2) in a horizontal position through the furnace (1). The conveying system includes a series of support plates (6). The support plates (6) are each formed of a rigid frame, which is equipped in the manner of a drum skin with a heat-resistant membrane (8) as the support surface for the glass sheet (2).

  • Patent number: 5779755
Abstract: For tempering by contact of a glass sheet having a through hole, cooled clamping pieces coated with thermoresistant fibers having a high thermal conductivity act on the surfaces of the glass sheet heated to the tempering temperature. During the action of the clamping plates, the inner surfaces of the glass sheet defining the hole are struck by a cooling gas. The cooling gas is injected by a jet or nozzle tube located in a clamping plate within a bore, which passes coaxially through the air-permeable covering fabric and, after having been whirled up within the hole, escapes through the fabric via a backflow pipe surrounding the jet or nozzle tube.

  • Patent number: 5387270
Abstract: A production installation for the contact toughening of glass sheets comprises a horizontal furnace for heating the glass sheets, a press containing two liquid-cooled pressing plates, a feed apparatus for transferring the heated glass sheets into the press and a removal apparatus for removing the toughened glass sheets out of the press. To the lower pressing plate, a solids-transmitted sound pick-up is coupled which, if a glass sheet breaks in the press, supplies an electrical signal. From this signal, after suitable processing of the signal, the control device is triggered, and as a result thereof interrupts the process sequence.

  • Patent number: 5021075
Abstract: A device for tempering of a glazing by contact has two cooled compression plates and a device for cooling the peripheral surface of the glazing by air jets. The device intended to cool peripheral surfaces of the glazing consists of parallelepipedic blowing ramps placed between cooling and compression plates and in which are provided slots for the cooling air jets directed toward the peripheral surface of the glazing, and exhaust openings placed between the slots. The slots have a diameter at least equal to 1 mm and at most equal to the thickness of the glazings, and the exhaust openings having a cross section which is at least three times that of slots. The dimensions of the cooling and compression plates, as well as arrangement and/or width (B) of the ramps are such that a distance (A) between the orifices of outlet slots and peripheral surface of glazing which is opposite to it is at least two times and at most six times the diameter of the slots.
