  • Patent number: 6548474
Abstract: Disubstituted cycloalkanones are prepared from one of 2-cyclopentylidenecyclopentan-1-one, 2-cyclohexylidenecyclohexan-1-one, 2-cyclopentylidenecyclohexan-1-one, or 2-cyclohexylidenecyclopentan-1-one. The resulting compounds were analyzed for their odor characteristics. The different compounds exhibited varied odor characteristics, which were not predictable from the structures of the compounds. The compounds are useful in the preparation of fragrance compositions and products formed from same.

  • Patent number: 6200254
Abstract: Novel macrocyclic diene ketone compounds useful as fragrance materials are described having the following general formula (I): where R1, R2, R3 and R4 are each either a hydrogen atom or a C1 to C4 alkyl, a is the integer 1 or 2 and b is an integer in a range from 1 to 6. Novel pathways are described for synthesizing these macrocyclic diene ketones, as well as saturated and mono-unsaturated macrocyclic ketones having the following general formula (IV): where R1, R2, R3 and R4 are each independently a hydrogen atom or a C1 to C4 alkyl, a is the integer 1 or 2 and b is an integer in a range from 1 to 6.

  • Patent number: 5753609
Abstract: 4-(1-methoxymethyl)-2-phenyl-1,3-dioxolane or a derivative thereof represented by formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom, a hydroxy group or a lower alkoxy group; R.sup.2 and R.sup.3, which may be the same or different, each represents a hydrogen atom, a hydroxy group, a lower alkoxy group, or, when taken together, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 represent a methylene dioxy group; useful in flavor and fragrance compositions.

  • Patent number: 5626852
Abstract: Described is a fragrancing composition having fragrancing components that are not activated until, e.g., application to the skin of a human. The composition is alkaline or (if anhydrous) capable of producing an alkaline pH when in contact with water, prior to application, and includes (1) a vehicle such that when the composition is in contact with water, prior to application, the composition is at an alkaline pH; and (2) at least one potential fragrance that is at least one compound having little or no odor in the alkaline composition but which, e.g., is hydrolyzed in a lower pH environment to produce compounds having a relatively strong aroma. Upon application of the alkaline composition to the skin surface, the strong buffering capacity of the skin (the surface of which has a normal pH of 5.5-7.0) neutralizes alkalinity of the composition (lowers pH) so as to restore normal skin surface pH; the potential fragrance is then hydrolyzed at the lower pH to release the compound having relatively strong aroma.
