  • Publication number: 20140262478
Abstract: A textile fabric, sleeve formed therefrom, and methods of construction thereof are provided. The fabric forms an elongate wall constructed from lengthwise extending warp yarns woven with widthwise extending weft yarns. At least some of the warp yarns are electrically conductive and have a first diameter. The weft yarns have a second diameter that is at least 25 percent less than the first diameter of the warp yarns. As such, the conductive warp yarns are brought into closer proximity with one another than if the weft yarns were the same diameter as the warp yarns. Accordingly, the ability of the fabric and sleeve formed therewith to provide shielding protection against EMI is enhanced.

  • Publication number: 20140273698
Abstract: A self-wrapping textile sleeve that is abrasion, arc and water resistant and method of construction thereof is provided. The sleeve includes a wall having opposite edges extending in a lengthwise direction along a central longitudinal axis of the sleeve between opposite ends. The opposite edges overlap one another to form an inner tubular cavity. The wall has warp yarns extending in the lengthwise direction generally parallel to the central longitudinal axis and weft yarns extending generally transversely to the longitudinal axis between the opposite edges. The warp and weft yarns include expanded PTFE yarns, and the weft yarns further include heat-settable thermoplastic yarns. The heat-settable polymeric yarns impart a bias on the wall to bring the opposite edges into their overlapping relation.

  • Publication number: 20140273699
Abstract: A wrappable knit textile sleeve and method of construction thereof are provided. The sleeve includes a wall of knit yarn having opposite edges extending lengthwise along a longitudinal axis of the sleeve between opposite ends with a straightened length of the wall spanning between the opposite ends. The knit yarn includes warp yarns extending generally parallel to the longitudinal axis and weft yarns extending generally transversely to the longitudinal axis. The opposite edges are wrappable into overlapping one another to form a tubular cavity. At least one of the weft yarns is an electro-functional yarn having a straightened length that is greater than the straightened length of the wall, thereby allowing opposite ends of the at least one electro-functional member to be pulled axially outwardly from the opposite ends of the wall to form leads for attachment to a power source.

Abstract: A braided protective sleeve and method of construction thereof is provided. The sleeve has a wall extending along a longitudinal axis of the sleeve. The wall includes a plurality of braided yarns forming inner and outer surfaces of the sleeve. The inner surface bounds an internal cavity and the outer surface is exposed to the surrounding environment. The yarns are braided with one another in a X/Y braid pattern with X and Y being different numerical values from one another. The numerical values of X and Y can be selected as desired to provide the sleeve with the enhanced physical performance characteristics desired. A plurality of yarns extending substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis can be interlaced with the braided yarns. The interlaced yarns can be exposed to the internal cavity and concealed from the environment; exposed to the environment and concealed from the internal cavity, or both.

  • Publication number: 20120148772
Abstract: A coated textile sleeve for routing and protecting elongate members, combination thereof, and method of construction is provided. The textile sleeve has an elongate knit wall constructed from weft knit yarns. The knit wall has an inner surface providing a generally tubular cavity in which the elongate members are received and protected. The inner surface is formed, at least in part, by laid-in yarn to provide a soft, non-abrasive surface for dampening contact with the elongate members being protected to facilitate absorbing vibration, which in turn, reduces the frictional wear of the elongate members being protected. Further, the knit wall has an outer surface with a flexible, impervious elastomeric coating thereon. The elastomeric coating allows the knit wall to substantially retain its flexibility as knit, provides enhanced protection against the ingress of fluid and other contaminants, and providing added dampening to absorb vibration.

  • Publication number: 20100316822
Abstract: A textile sleeve for protecting elongate members with a high temperature abrasion resistant coating and methods of assembly, construction and curing thereof is provided. The textile sleeve includes a tubular textile wall formed of non-heatsettable yarn with interstices formed between adjacent filaments of the yarn. The wall has an outer surface and an inner surface providing an inner cavity for receipt of the elongate members. A fluoropolymer-based coating having about an 80 wt % fluoropolymer content is applied to the wall outer surface. The coating is substantially absorbed within the outer surface with the interstices being preserved. The coating is dried to an uncured state, and then subsequently cured at about 700 degrees Fahrenheit or greater. Upon being exposed and cured at a temperature of about 700 degrees Fahrenheit or more, the fluoropolymer-based coating melts and cross-links, thereby providing enhanced abrasion resistance protection to the wall.

  • Patent number: 7600539
Abstract: A low profile fold protective textile sleeve for bundling elongate members has longitudinally and laterally interlaced monofilament warp and fill yarns. Flat profile monofilaments are employed in the warp direction and round monofilaments in the fill direction. The flat monofilaments are considerably wider than they are thick, and provide the sleeve with flexibility and bending out of the plane of the sleeve. The round monofilaments may be sized so that their diameter is about the same as the thickness of the flat monofilaments, and they can be bundled together so that the effective width of each bundle approximates the width of the flat monofilament yarns with which they are intertwined. The round monofilaments are heat-set along at least a portion of their length to provide biased living hinge regions of the sleeve, while also lending strength and stiffness to the sleeve along the fill direction.
