A determination is made of compression performance for a compression algorithm to use to compress data to transmit to a target node over a network and of network performance of the network. The determined compression performance and the network performance are used to determine whether to compress the data. The data is compressed in response to determining to compress the data and the compressed data is transmitted to the target node over the network in response to compressing the data. The data is transmitted to the target node uncompressed in response to determining not to compress the data.

The catalog is processed to identify resource managers publishing the requested service and the resource manager information is processed to determine at least one identified resource manager publishing the requested service that also satisfies at least one rule applicable to the service request.
