  • Patent number: 8579069
Abstract: A wheeled forestry tractors design, such as that for a wheel feller-buncher or a site prep tractor, is disclosed. The disclosed design includes a front axle connected to a rear axle by an articulated chassis. A cab is supported between and above the front and rear axles by the chassis. An engine and a hydraulic system are mounted opposite the rear axle from the cab and in a side-by-side relationship with the engine being aligned transversely with respect to the chassis and parallel to the rear axle. The engine is mounted transversely or parallel with respect to the rear axle and slightly behind the rear axle to improve the weight distribution between the front and rear axles or between the front and rear frames.

    Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.
Inventors: Jerome M. Robillard, Chad K. Jorgensen
  • Patent number: 8523275
Abstract: A polycarbonate window system having an integrated ROPS that reduces the thickness of cab posts of machine such that the operator's visibility is increased. The polycarbonate window system also facilitates secure retention of the polycarbonate window without requiring holes to be formed near the periphery of the polycarbonate window, thereby increasing the structural integrity of the polycarbonate window.

  • Patent number: 7950492
Abstract: An operator's station for a machine having at least two stations comprises a seat mounted to swivel between at least a first position and a second position, at least first and second windshield portions disposed generally opposed or at an angle to one another and generally corresponding to the first and second positions, and at least first and second windshield wipers movably mounted to selectively sweep the first and second windshield portions, respectively. At least one control device selectively renders the first windshield wiper selectively operable when the seat is disposed in the first position and inoperable when the seat is disposed in the second position.

  • Patent number: 6257818
Abstract: A tree skidder transport machine and method wherein the machine has a hydraulically operated boom assembly extending rearwardly of a chassis. The boom assembly includes a main boom and a stick boom which cooperate hydraulically to lift the bottom end of a tree, or tree bunch, near the butt, and drag it forwardly over a bogied pair of chassis support wheels. With the further cooperation of a hydraulically actuated heel boom, the tree or tree bunch is then rotated vertically in a counterclockwise direction to lift its top end off the ground and move the tree or tree bunch forwardly a sufficient distance to bring some of the weight of the tree or tree bunch onto the front wheels of the machine.

  • Patent number: 6067878
Abstract: A system for automatically preventing gear shift operation in a timber harvesting tractor when the tractor is moving. The system includes a drive train powered by a transmission. The drive train includes a transfer case which is shifted by the operator of the tractor through manipulation of an electrical control circuit. The electrical control circuit is rendered ineffective to shift the transfer case when the drive train is being driven by the transmission and the tractor is moving.
