  • Patent number: 9806413
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for modifying spacing in between a plurality of antenna dipole columns on an antenna associated with a wireless communications network. A first signaling technology currently employed by a base station is determined, where the first signaling technology requires each of the antenna dipole columns to be separated from one another by a first distance. It is then determined that a second signaling technology is to be employed by the base station, the second signaling technology requiring each of the antenna dipole columns to be separated from one another by a second distance. A signaling message is communicated to a movement mechanism, causing at least one of the antenna dipole columns to move so that the columns are spaced at the second distance from one another.

  • Patent number: 9736846
Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods for providing improved network performance in wireless communications networks using intelligent radiation selection are provided. A radio is communicatively coupled to an antenna and configured to provide a signal to the antenna for broadcast from a cell site. One or more input components are communicatively coupled to the radio to provide information on at least one of an internal or an external condition of the antenna, so that the radio can adjust or modify the signal provided to the antenna to change an emitted pattern of radiation from the antenna to reduce signal loss, or recover or help maintain an area of coverage provided by the antenna.

  • Patent number: 9705177
Abstract: Antenna mount systems and methods for deploying small cells are disclosed. The antenna mount system may include an outer housing and an inner antenna enclosure at least partly positioned inside the outer housing, with the inner antenna enclosure movably coupled to the outer housing. The antenna mount system can include an orientation member that can aid in maintaining a particular orientation of an antenna so as to maintain a radiation pattern substantially on a defined area, independent of the position of the antenna mount system.

  • Patent number: 9521580
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for reducing the potential of interference between a cell tower and a neighboring EMR source. At a base station, such as an eNodeB, it is determined that a sector of the cell tower has the potential for interference with the EMR source based on, for instance, monitoring of network parameters, a computation of the sector's azimuth, and a distance between the sector and the EMR source. Time intervals are computed corresponding to when the EMR source emits EMR in a direction of the sector of the base station, Uplink and downlink transmissions to and from the sector of the cell tower are ceased during the computed time intervals.

  • Patent number: 9439092
Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for detecting cell site component faults are provided. An unmanned aerial vehicle may be utilized to collect heat signature information about remotely located cell towers. The heat signature information is analyzed to detect any anomalies at the remote cell site that may indicate an antenna, radio, or cable connector are malfunctioning or need repair, for example. When an anomaly is detected, an indication of the anomaly and information to identify one or more components that correspond to the anomaly are communicated.

  • Patent number: 9407382
Abstract: A device, apparatus, and method are provided for mitigation of return loss during signal transmission. The device comprises a radio transmitter and a radio antenna coupled by a signal transmission line, the radio antenna configured to broadcast over air a radio signal transmitted by the radio transmitter, the signal transmission line configured to transmit the radio signal to the radio antenna along a signal path. The device further comprises a positioning stub coupled to the radio transmitter, the radio antenna, and the signal transmission line, the positioning stub configured to move to different locations along the signal path to dynamically change the impedance of the signal path to reduce signal return loss.

  • Patent number: 9369881
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for dynamically changing an orientation of dipole elements on an antenna associated with a wireless communications network. A reference signal is received at a base station from a user device that indicates an angle of arrival corresponding to the user device. Based on the angle of arrival and other factors, it is determined that a first pair of dipole elements having a first orientation is to be moved to have a second orientation. By way of a motorized element, first pair of dipole elements is physically moved from the first orientation to the second orientation.

  • Patent number: 9369161
Abstract: A method, system, and medium are provided for mitigating radio-frequency (RF) interference at a remote radio head (RRH) of a base station due to non-linearity in at least one of the RRH components. RF-interference indicators received from one or more user devices are monitored. When the RF-interference indicators indicate that RF interference at the RRH is above a predefined threshold, then a power amplifier associated with the RRH is adjusted to operate in a saturation mode thereby reducing the generation of inter-modulation products and reducing RF interference at the RRH. When the RF-interference indicators indicate that RF interference at the RRH is below the predefined threshold, then the power amplifier is adjusted to operate in an active mode thereby optimizing signal gain.
