  • Publication number: 20100283696
Abstract: A satellite tracking antenna system with improved tracking characteristics and operating method thereof are disclosed. The system independently controls an elevation angle and an azimuth angle of an antenna according to the movement of a vehicle, controls the elevation angle of the antenna only when a satellite elevation-angle variation is equal to or higher than a reference value, so that it can improve the tracking speed and performance of the satellite. The system includes an antenna unit, a GPS receiver, an azimuth-angle gyro-sensor, a control board, a motor unit. The control board includes an elevation-angle controller and a main controller. The motor unit includes an elevation-angle motor and an azimuth-angle motor.

  • Publication number: 20090224988
Abstract: A satellite tracking mode-selectable satellite antenna system is disclosed. In one embodiment, the satellite antenna system includes an antenna unit installed in a mobile body for receiving a satellite signal, a motor unit for rotating an oriented direction of the antenna unit, an outdoor unit (ODU) for driving the motor unit to orient the antenna unit toward a satellite, and an indoor unit (IDU) for controlling the ODU to orient the antenna unit toward the satellite. The satellite antenna system further includes a gyro sensor unit detachably installed in the mobile body for sensing motion of the mobile body. One embodiment of the invention is capable of selecting an in-motion mode of tracking and acquiring the initial position of a satellite and then continuously tracking the position of the satellite, or a positioner mode of tracking and acquiring the initial position of the satellite and then fixing the oriented direction of an antenna.

  • Patent number: 6191734
Abstract: The present invention relates to a satellite tracking apparatus and control method for performing attitude control of a vehicle-mounted antenna for receiving a satellite broadcasting and operating the antenna. The present invention employs a hybrid tracking method that performs tracking using an electronic beam in an elevation direction while performing mechanical tracking in an azimuth direction. The electronic tracking is employed in controlling the azimuth direction to compensate for a tracking error in the azimuth direction. While the tracking performance of the present invention is similar to that of the full-electronic antenna, the present invention achieves better beam efficiency by arranging radiating elements to be effective in front of the antenna, thereby realizing a high gain antenna.
