Abstract: Aggregation, analysis, and presentation of patent and business data in a common interface are described. The analysis includes techniques for evaluating a patent or patent application by examining claim-related information. These techniques include deriving unique signatures of individual claims and ascertaining scope of individual claims relative to other claims in a collection (such as claims found in a common class). The signature and scope of patent claims may be graphically depicted using various graphics elements in a user interface.

Abstract: A gas turbine operated handpiece instrument having a spin able front shaft mounted bur that is operated by pressurized gas or air. Two embodiments are disclosed. In one a flexible rubber like PVC one-way pinch valve is mounted on an exterior gas exhaust stack of the instrument's body housing. This embodiment allows for the internal lubrication of the turbine parts by compressing the valve sides towards each other and then spraying a lubricate into the housing through the opened valve. In another embodiment, a metallic one-way ball valve is mounted within an extension to the housing and this design is more suitable for dental bur offset instruments. In both designs, the turbine has impellers located within the hollow body of the instrument. The purpose of the one-way valves in both embodiments is to prevent contaminates from being sucked back into the housing as the gas turbine is being shut down during its complete operating range.

Abstract: Tape transport apparatus of the type in which a drive capstan engages supply and take-up rolls in peripheral driving relationship. Movement of the take-up roll away from the capstan is resisted by a frictional force produced by a brake band wrapped about a brake drum which is affixed to the carriage which supports the take-up roll.

Abstract: Independent rotational and translational movement imparting apparatus is provided to move a workpiece along its axis and to rotate it about its own axis. The apparatus includes two separate timing mechanisms which are interconnected with a common mechanism to impart movement to the workpiece. The common mechanism includes an interconnecting gear arrangement which is responsive to impart translatory movement or rotary movement, each independent of the other and each separately controlled.

Abstract: Transport apparatus having a brake for retarding rotation of a supply roll during the feeding of tape or film from the supply roll to a take-up hub. The brake is applied intermittently, and both electrical and mechanical means are disclosed for actuating the brake.

Abstract: A tape roll hold-down device for retaining a roll of tape upon a mounting post includes a transversely extending support surface for engaging and supporting the underside of a hub of a roll of tape. The support post extends upwardly through the plane of the support surface and carries a pivotable toggle mounted upon a pivot pin extending transversely of the post. The toggle includes a pair of wedge portions whereby the toggle can be first pivoted transversely of the axis of the support post and then thrust in a wedging manner between the pivot pin and the adjacent surface of the tape roll hub. In releasing the toggle in one embodiment, it needs merely to be thrust beyond the edge of the opening in the hub so that lifting the hub will pivot the distal end of the toggle upwardly and the pivoting end downwardly into the opening of the hub as the hub is lifted.
