    Abstract: The apparatus and method of the present invention is directed to storing and/or preserving fruits and vegetables by introducing an antimicrobial agent and/or additional molecular oxygen into an oxygen-containing gas stream that is circulated through a bed of the fruits and/or vegetables. The antimicrobial agent can be introduced by any number of devices, including for example an atomizer or a humidifier.
