Publication number: 20240072265Abstract: A fuel cell electrode protective layer forming method is disclosed. The method includes forming primary defects in a carbon-based protective layer material via a formation step. The primary defects are configured to transport fuel cell products and/or reactants representing a transported portion of a total fuel cell products and/or reactants. The difference between the total fuel cell products and/or reactants and the transported portion is an untransported portion. The method further includes activating secondary defects in the carbon-based protective layer material via an activation step. The secondary defects are configured to transport a portion of the untransported portion of the total fuel cell reactants and/or products. The activation step is different than the formation step.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 24, 2022Publication date: February 29, 2024Inventors: Soo KIM, Jonathan MAILOA, Christina JOHNSTON, Charles TUFFILE, Jake CHRISTENSEN

Patent number: 6644539Abstract: A package with bottom panel stand-offs includes a plurality of upstanding side walls, each side wall contiguous or sealed to adjacent side walls, a sealed top panel, and a sealed bottom panel. The sealed bottom panel has a generally planar portion and three stand-offs formed therein. The three stand-offs are non-coplanar with the generally planar region and define a triangular pattern other than a right angle triangle. The stand-offs raise the generally planar portion above and spaced from a surface on which the package rests. A method for forming a stable carton is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 2001Date of Patent: November 11, 2003Assignee: Tetra Laval Holdings & Finance, SAInventors: Craig Boyd, Charles Christensen

Patent number: 6094884Abstract: A bottom forming apparatus having a mandrel cap and a sealing plate configured to create a carton with an elevated bottom. The present invention alleviates the problem of cartons having soggy bottoms since the point of absorption, the raw paperboard edge, is elevated above the moisture which may be present during distribution from the packaging machine to the retailer. The elevated bottom portion is actually inverted into the carton with planar portions resting on the surface to support the carton. The sealing plate has a multitude of elevated portions and the mandrel cap has a recess and an angled edge for elevating the raw paperboard edge. The various embodiments of the sealing plate are able to elevate most carton bottom configurations including the standard TETRA REX.RTM. carton and the TETRA REX.RTM. sixth panel with skived edge carton.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 1998Date of Patent: August 1, 2000Assignee: Tetra Laval Holdings & Finance, SAInventors: Charles Christensen, Mats Johansson

Patent number: 6040955Abstract: A self servo writing file and method for writing servo patterns in a direct access storage device are provided. First servo information is written on a data storage media at a first crash stop. The transducer heads are moved offset from the written servo information while reading the last written servo information until the detected servo signal equals a predetermined value. Then servo information is written on the data storage media responsive to the detected servo signal equal to the predetermined value. The moving and writing steps are sequentially repeating until a second crash stop is reached. A quad-burst servo amplitude pattern or phase pattern can be used for the servo information. The servo writing method is adapted easily for many different servo options. When the file uses a hybrid servo or sector servo, the other surfaces can be written by duplicating the servo bursts with a high bandwidth servo system of the file.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 1994Date of Patent: March 21, 2000Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Dana Henry Brown, Thomas Charles Christensen, Earl A. Cunningham, Wayne A. Rogelstad

Patent number: 6027015Abstract: A carton having a primary elevated bottom portion extending along the length of an exposed raw paperboard edge to protect the carton and to prevent moisture absorption. The carton also having a secondary elevated bottom portion substantially within the primary elevated portion and having an elevation greater than the primary elevated bottom portion. Additional elevated portions are provided for additional raw paperboard edges on the bottom of the carton. The present invention alleviates the problem of cartons having soggy bottoms since the point of absorption, the raw paperboard edge, is elevated above the moisture which may be present during distribution from the packaging machine to the retailer. The elevated bottom portion is actually inverted into the carton with planar portions resting on the surface to support the carton.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 1998Date of Patent: February 22, 2000Assignee: Tetra Laval Holdings & Finance, SAInventor: Charles Christensen

Patent number: 6014277Abstract: A multipath channel apparatus for a data storage device wherein data is stored on a storage medium and is read from the storage medium by a transducer or for a data communications system wherein data is transmitted to a receiver. A data channel having a plurality of data paths is operatively connected to the transducer to receive data read from the storage medium by the transducer, or operatively connected to receive data demodulated by the receiver or base band data received by the receiver. Preferably, each of the data paths has a differing parameter value. An error checking unit checks customer and redundancy data from each of the data paths. A selecting unit, which is responsive to the error checking unit, selects data from one of the data paths. In a preferred embodiment, the data stored on a storage medium includes a data field and an error correcting code field, and the customer and redundancy data from each of the data paths is checked using a calculated error correcting code sydrome.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 1996Date of Patent: January 11, 2000Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Thomas Charles Christensen, Earl Albert Cunningham
