  • Patent number: 4493912
Abstract: A method of preparing a novel electromagnetic wave attenuating composition comprising forming a curable film forming coating composition and thereafter dispersing an effective amount of an electrically conductive additive in said curable film forming composition under low shear conditions to form said electromagnetic wave blocking composition.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 15, 1983
Date of Patent: January 15, 1985
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Charles D. Dudgeon, Maynard R. Winstead
  • Patent number: 4480059
Abstract: Improved thermally-curable adhesive compositions for bonding articles of poly(butylene terephthalate) together or to other articles are disclosed. The adhesive compositions comprise at least one epoxidic prepolymer having two or more epoxy groups, an aromatic halonium complex salt thermal initiator dissolved in a compatibilizing non-epoxidic organic liquid, a copper carboxylate salt cocatalyst, a polyhydric alcohol, and optionally, silica filler. The adhesive compositions when heated, cure to form an adhesive bond between articles of poly(butylene terephthalate) which exhibits a vastly improved bond strength over presently available epoxy adhesive materials.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 26, 1982
Date of Patent: October 30, 1984
    Assignee: General Electric Company
    Inventor: Charles D. Dudgeon
  • Patent number: 4374751
Abstract: Improved polymerization initiators are described. The combination of radiation sensitive sulfonium or iodonium salts of a Bronsted Acid with an activating peroxide compound may be employed to effect epoxide polymerization.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 8, 1980
Date of Patent: February 22, 1983
    Assignee: General Electric Company
    Inventor: Charles D. Dudgeon
  • Patent number: 4356297
Abstract: Reactions involving diprimary amines, e.g., methylenedianiline, particularly those forming polyesterimides are carried out using, in place of the diamine, a urethane compound capable of yielding the diamine at reaction temperatures. The preparation of wire enamels from polyesterimides thus prepared is particularly described.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 14, 1981
Date of Patent: October 26, 1982
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Yue G. L. Lee, Charles D. Dudgeon
  • Patent number: 4355123
Abstract: Cured polyester compositions and their production are described. These are produced by curing a composition containing polyester resin and aliphatic polyol having a molecular weight of at least about 2000. The polyol acts to reduce normal polyester shrinkage incident to curing so as to produce improved articles.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 16, 1980
Date of Patent: October 19, 1982
    Assignee: General Electric Company
    Inventor: Charles D. Dudgeon
  • Patent number: 4308118
Abstract: A composition uniquely adapted for use as a heat and ultraviolet light hardenable putty for filling metal surfaces comprises an epoxidic prepolymer, a catalyst precursor combination comprising an aromatic sulfonium salt of a complex halogenide and an aromatic iodonium salt of a complex halogenide, a copper salt catalyst activator, and a mineral filler in an amount sufficient to produce a paste-like consistency.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 29, 1979
Date of Patent: December 29, 1981
    Assignee: General Electric Company
    Inventor: Charles D. Dudgeon
  • Patent number: 4275190
Abstract: Epoxy resin compositions catalyzed with combinations of diaryliodonium salts of complex halogenides and copper salt catalyst activators are rendered stable at room temperature, but fully activatable at elevated temperatures by including an effective amount of a carboxyl terminated copolymer of butadiene and acrylonitrile, a hydroxy terminated copolymer of butadiene and acrylonitrile or a mixture thereof.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 8, 1980
Date of Patent: June 23, 1981
    Assignee: General Electric Company
    Inventor: Charles D. Dudgeon
  • Patent number: 4272310
Abstract: In a novel method of forming a stator, armature, coil, etc., the steps of bonding a structure of magnet wire by applying a coating of reactive spooling oil to the length of magnet wire, followed by forming the magnet wire into a coil about an armature, making an open coil, or inserting the latter into a slot section of the core of a stator, and heating the magnet wire until the coating is converted to a hard adhesive thereby permanently forming the bonded structure of magnet wire.
