  • Patent number: 6554831
Abstract: A mobile dynamic implantable spinal apparatus comprising at least one fixed bracket secured on a correcting rod and at least one mobile carrier slidably mounted on the correcting rod. The fixed bracket and the mobile carrier each include a body and a pedicle screw or a transverse process hook articulated to the body. The distribution of the degrees of freedom between the carrier and the rod, and the pedicle screws or hooks and the carrier and the fixed bracket provide a non-rigid assembly which preserves some of the natural mobility of the vertebrae and disk, and the potential growth of the spinal column.

  • Patent number: 5599286
Abstract: A series of ortheses for the treatment of scoliotic deformities are each adapted for obliquely applying dynamic derotational forces on the thorax and lumbar spine of the user in opposite directions combined with a kyphosing action on the thorax and a lordosing action on the lumbar spine. The orthoses are designed in order that the correcting forces can be applied on the user's trunk with various degree of mechanical force while allowing for complete or partial mobility of the trunk. The various orthoses can treat small, moderate and substantially severe deformities which are supple or rigid. A supple orthosis for small and supple curves comprises a thoracic garment encircling the upper thorax, short pants to provide a grip around the pelvic girdle and the upper thighs, and upper and lower semi-elastic straps having supple thoracic and lumbar pads, respectively, attached respectively to the garment and the pants.

  • Patent number: 5413576
Abstract: An internal brace system includes a pair of implantable rods for mounting on either side of the spinal column co-extensive with a portion of the spinal column to be treated. Transverse bars rigidly connect the rods together in spaced-apart parallel arrangement to provide a unitary internal brace stabilizing structure. Pairs of anchors in the form of cuffs are provided with one of each pair on respective transverse processes of each selected vertebra in the portion of the spinal column to be treated. A flexible first tie member extends from each anchor cuff to a sleeve on a respective rod on either side of the spinal column for retaining individual vertebra in a predetermined location relative to the internal brace system and against torsional forces applied through the spinal column. A further anchor is provided on the spinous process of the selected vertebra.
