  • Patent number: 7492790
Abstract: The real-time reassembly of data received over an ATM network is enabled by a system including two digital memories, an indicator for indicating one of the two memories as a process memory and another one of the two memories as a storage memory, a buffer memory, a processor which processes the digital contents of a cell stored in the process memory and stores the digital contents of a subsequent cell in the storage memory. In operation of the system, the processing of the contents of the process memory is completed prior to completion of the receiving and storing of the contents of the subsequent cell in the storage memory.

  • Patent number: 7068757
Abstract: A slave test unit is used in conjunction with a remote test unit to test voice signal quality parameters, such as clarity, delay and echo. A remote master test unit, or a remote slave test unit, controls the slave test unit via commands sent by the remote test unit over a phone connection established by the remote test unit. Such a system of test units eliminates the need for a human test operator to be present at the location of the slave test unit. The inclusion of a “dialback” capability in the slave test unit allows a remote test unit to instruct the slave test unit to call back the remote test unit, thus allowing voice quality tests to be performed over a phone connection that has been initiated by the slave test unit. This capability is advantageous in voice quality testing over phone connections involving a digital data network, since the path of the connection through a data network is typically determined by the location of the origination of the call.

  • Patent number: 7020274
Abstract: A communication apparatus is used to interface signals with any one of a plurality of telephony networks having different impedances. The apparatus includes memory, a processor, a digital-to-analog (D/A) converter, and an interface port. Different sets of impedance control values are stored in the memory. The processor is configured to select one of the sets of impedance control values and to serially transmit the selected set of impedance control values during a communication session. The D/A converter is configured to receive the selected set of impedance control values from the processor and to transmit analog signals based on the selected set of impedance control values. The interface port is configured to interface signals with a communication connection of a telephony network.

  • Patent number: 6985560
Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for obtaining, from an analog subscriber loop, test data that may be used to test the performance of a telephony communication system. The apparatus includes a digital-to-analog (D/A) converter, a first port, a second port, and an analog-to-digital (A/D) converter. The D/A converter receives digital data and converts the digital data into a first analog signal. The first port transmits the first analog signal across a first subscriber loop to a telephony communication network. The network, via A/D and D/A conversion, translates the first analog signal to a second analog signal and transmits the second analog signal to the second port via a second subscriber loop. The A/D converter receives the second analog signal from the second port and converts the second analog signal into the digital test data, which is then used to analyze the performance of the telephony communication system.
