  • Publication number: 20240094872
Abstract: Some embodiments provide a method for a document viewing application. While displaying a sequence of selectable items that each correspond to a different document in a sequence of documents, the method receives selection of an item corresponding to a particular document in the sequence. The method retrieves a first set of content for displaying at least a portion of the particular document. After the first set of content is retrieved and displayed, the method retrieves content for displaying documents surrounding the particular document in the sequence of documents such that the content is available if input is received to display one of the documents surrounding the particular document in the sequence.

  • Publication number: 20200371676
Abstract: A method includes displaying a drawing aid in a sketch area on a touch-sensitive display, and receiving one or more drawing inputs. In response to receiving the one or more drawing inputs, the device displays marks based on the drawing inputs that are constrained based on the drawing aid. While displaying the drawing aid in the sketch area, the device detects a touch gesture at a location corresponding to a location of the drawing aid. In response to detecting the touch gesture: if the touch gesture is a pinch gesture, the device ceases to display the drawing aid in the sketch area; and if the touch gesture is a rotational gesture, the device rotates the drawing aid relative to the sketch area in accordance with the movement of at least one contact in the touch gesture while maintaining display of the drawing aid in the sketch area.

  • Patent number: 10795558
Abstract: A method includes displaying an on-screen ruler in a sketch area in response to a predefined input. The on-screen ruler has a first edge and an interior portion delineated by the first edge. The method further includes, in response to detecting a first touch input directed to the first edge of the on-screen ruler, rendering a line in the sketch area in accordance with the first edge of the on-screen ruler. The method further includes, in response to detecting a second touch input directed to the first edge of the on-screen ruler, adding fill content in a first portion of the sketch area that corresponds to regions touched by the second touch input on the touch-sensitive surface and that is delineated by the first edge of the on-screen ruler, such that the first portion of the sketch area is confined by the first edge or the line.

  • Patent number: 10699063
Abstract: This disclosure describes systems, methods, and computer program products for authoring content for digital books. In some implementations, a single graphical user interface (GUI) is presented that allows an author to design a layout for the digital book, including editing text and inserting various types of interactive elements in the text. The GUI functions as both a digital book layout design tool and a word processor to facilitate the building of a digital book. The relative page location of inserted widgets can be determined by a user-selectable anchor point placed within the text. An outline view of the digital book can be created and presented in the GUI based on a hierarchical structure determined by paragraph styles applied to the text. The GUI can provide a hybrid glossary and index page for allowing the author to create and manage a glossary and index for the digital book.

  • Patent number: 10523663
Abstract: Various techniques are disclosed for managing and modifying data items. In some embodiments, a first data item can be selected for password protection via establishing an active secured user session according to a set of user credentials. Thereafter, subsequent data items can be selected for password protection using the same set of user credentials while the secured user session remains active. In some embodiments, a gesture input can be received by a touch interface. The input can be detected, and when the input is recognized as a command for creating an extension of a work space associated with a data item, then the extension of the work space is generated. In some embodiments, the gesture input received by the touch interface is recognized as a command for creating a new work space associated with the data item such that a new work space is generated upon recognizing the input.

  • Patent number: 10474320
Abstract: Some embodiments provide a document viewing application with first and second document channel browsing modes. The first mode displays selectable items corresponding to document channels. Selection of an item causes the application to add the corresponding document channel to a set of selected document channels from which to retrieve documents for presentation within the application and dynamically add items corresponding to document channels related to the selected document channel to the selectable items for display in the first mode. The second mode displays a first set of selectable items corresponding to sources of documents and a second set of selectable items corresponding to document topics. Selection of an item in the second browsing mode causes the application to add the corresponding document channel to the set of selected document channels and modify the selectable items presented in the second mode a next time the second mode is entered.

  • Patent number: 10346019
Abstract: Some embodiments provide a GUI for a document reader application for viewing videos in video document panes. In some embodiments, the GUI determines whether to play the video inline within a document pane based on the size of the video document pane. In some embodiments, when a video is being played within a video document pane, a user can select the body of the video document pane to show the full content of the video document. Some embodiments provide a GUI that, when a user scrolls a video off-screen while the videos are playing inline in the document panes, pauses or stops the playback of the video and provides an indication that the playback is being stopped. In some embodiments, the indication is a fading of the video or of audio associated with the video, as the video document is scrolled off-screen.
