  • Patent number: 5996314
Abstract: A method and apparatus automatically process currency documents. A stack of loose bank documents are placed on a feeder having a feeder arm which pushes the documents toward a continuous vacuum belt. The feeder arm is controlled by a lever arm connected to a potentiometer. The vacuum belt pulls documents from the stack, and moves the documents past a vacuum separator head and to a transport conveyor. The vacuum belt and the vacuum separator head are connected to the same vacuum supply. The transport conveyor moves the documents through inspection and sorting stations, and to various stacking units which stack the documents on platens. A strapping tape is curved to bend in a direction transverse to its length, and then a terminal end portion of the strapping tape is pushed through connected channels to direct the terminal end portion around three sides of a stack of the documents.

  • Patent number: 5871209
Abstract: A cassette (20) for a currency handling system includes a door (28) that can be opened to expose the entire front surface of the cassette. An end door (30) is operable to be opened to allow currency that is disposed within the interior of the cassette (20) to be urged outward. The cassette (20) has a locking mechanism disposed in an end (72), which locking mechanism prevents the door from opening until the cassette (20) is disposed in a docking station. Once in the docking station, a paddle (56) is urged downward into the cassette (20) to urge the notes outward therefrom. These notes are moved into a buffer region (58) and then the cassette (20) can be removed to allow another cassette (20) to be disposed therein. This allows a continuous feeding operation. The cassette (20) can then be disposed in a second collection docking station to collect the output of the sorter (41). In this docking station, a paddle (68) is reciprocated downward into the cassette (20) with the collected notes.

  • Patent number: 5192141
Abstract: A printer 20 for imprinting data on a variety of multi-dimensional media 62 has media based registration and can accomplish free edge printing for printing data adjacent edges. The printer 20 includes a transport mechanism 52 for accurately transporting and positioning the media 62 before a print head 102. Further, the printer 20 includes a carriage mounted sensor 144 for media edge detection, registration and media size determination. A media presentation mechanism 96 ensures that the media 62 is appropriately presented and maintained at the optimal distance from and orientation with respect to the print head 102.

  • Patent number: 4729680
Abstract: A sheet feed device for sequentially selecting and feeding sheets of paper from one or more trays or magazines mounted upon a printer and delivering them to the platen of the printer. The device includes one or more selector latch mechanisms, one associated with each tray, whose movement is controlled by the platen rotation and which, in turn, controls the rotation of sheet feed rollers associated with the trays, in response to a specific sequence of forward and reverse angular platen movements.

  • Patent number: 4335842
Abstract: A compartment defining partition member is disclosed for insertion into a rectangular shipping case so as to divide that case into three separated compartments. The partition member comprises a single length blank of fiberboard folded on parallel cut-score and score lines. The folds are such that the inherent tendency of the folded panels to return to the unfolded condition of the blank biases the ends of the blank against diagonally opposed corners of the case to effectively resist displacement of the partition within the case as well as withdrawal of the partition from the case.
