Patent number: 11753895Abstract: A multipurpose latch assembly (MPLA) for installation above the bore of a blowout preventer includes an annular sidewall extending between a top flange and a bottom flange and having an interior bore surface defining an interior bore. A plurality of latching slots extend through the sidewall and a latching dog is slidably positioned in each latching slot. Actuators are connected to the latching dogs to extend and retract them through the latching slots. A tool having an external slot can be inserted into the bore of the MPLA and selectively engaged by the latching dogs to secure the tool in the bore of above the blowout preventer.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 2022Date of Patent: September 12, 2023Assignee: ADS Services, LLCInventors: Charles Orbell, Christian Leuchtenberg, Sean Austin Alley

Patent number: 11326415Abstract: A rotating control device is disclosed for the use of oil, gas or geothermal wells. While providing for sealing with or without rotation of the drill pipe, the device consists of a housing with guide rails attached beneath the two part dual actuated clamp that can be locked in place by remote controlled retention pins. The design has a novel adapter design enabling a common RCD bearing assembly to be installed in a variety of different housing sizes.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 2020Date of Patent: May 10, 2022Assignee: ADS SERVICES, LLCInventor: Charles Orbell

Patent number: 8684109Abstract: A method of drilling a subterranean borehole comprising: a) pumping a drilling fluid down a drillstring (12), the drillstring (12) having a bit (14) at an end thereof, b) rotating the drillstring (12) about its longitudinal axis so that the bit forms a borehole (10) in the ground, the method further comprising the steps of: c) determining a desired drilling fluid flow rate range d) determining the desired upper and lower limits of the fluid pressure at the bottom of the wellbore (the BHP); e) determining the viscosity of drilling fluid which will maintain the BHP within the range set by the upper and lower BHP limits over the entire or the majority of the required drilling flow rate range; f) adjusting the composition of a drilling fluid to bring the drilling fluid to the viscosity calculated in step e above.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 2011Date of Patent: April 1, 2014Assignee: Managed Pressure Operations Pte LtdInventors: Charles Orbell, Pat Savage

Publication number: 20080105434Abstract: An offshore universal riser system (OURS) and injection system (OURS-IS) inserted into a riser. The OURS/OUR-IS provides a means for pressurizing the marine riser to its maximum pressure capability and easily allows variation of the fluid density in the riser. The OURS-IS includes a riser pup joint with provision for injecting a fluid into the riser with isolation valves. The OURS includes a riser pup joint with an inner riser adapter, a pressure test nipple, a safety device, outlets with valves for diverting the mud flow, nipples with seal bores for accepting RCDs. The easy delivery of fluids to the OURS-IS is described. A method is detailed to manipulate the density in the riser to provide a wide range of operating pressures and densities enabling the concepts of Managed Pressure Drilling, Dual Density Drilling or Dual Gradient Drilling, and Underbalanced Drilling.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 7, 2007Publication date: May 8, 2008Applicant: HALLIBURTON ENERGY SERVICES, INC.Inventors: Charles Orbell, Christian Leuchtenberg
