  • Patent number: 5131482
Abstract: A self-contained stand-alone weighing system (10) comprises at least one weight supporting surface (24) for bearing the weight of an object, at least one transducer (60) coupled to the weight supporting surface (24) for producing a signal indicative of the weight, and a processor (66) for receiving the signal and producing a resultant weight signal. The resultant weight signal is then represented in a form perceptible to humans by a weight indicator (38). The self-contained weighing system (10) also comprises a rechargeable battery (36) for supplying electrical energy, and a housing (12,14) for enclosing the weighing system (10) to form a single unit.

  • Patent number: 4836308
Abstract: A platform weighing system (10) suitable for making accurate weight measurements of heavy objects, such as aircraft, is disclosed. Hardware and software combine to produce the accurate results. Analog hardware (14) includes hydraulic load cells (80a-80d), temperature sensing (91), filtering (90), and voltage-to-frequency conversion (104). Digital hardware (12) receives an oscillation signal output from the voltage-to-frequency conversion (104) and obtains load counts by monitoring the oscillation signal for consistent predetermined durations. The predetermined duration is chosen in software (226) to be immune to particularly pervasive noise signals. A microprocessor (16) converts load counts into a weight code which is output to a display (46). This conversion includes compensation for auto ranging (320), load cell excitation variance (282), temperature compensation (284), null offset variance (286), and zero drifting (304).

  • Patent number: 4308959
Abstract: An apparatus for sorting articles based upon the presence of defects on the surface thereof is characterized by a roller conveyor carrying a random array of articles in transverse channels defined between adjacent rollers. As the conveyor is advanced through a viewed area the articles are simultaneously rotated such that electrical images are formed of the portions of the surface of each article within a viewing zone defined in each channel during a given time frame. The viewing zones advance a predetermined distance through the viewed are in synchronization with the scanning of the electrical images. A characteristic signal for the portion of the electrical image corresponding to each article is developed and output to a processor. The processor generates a classification signal representative of the acceptability of each article based upon the percentage of total surface of area or number of defects on the surface each article.

  • Patent number: 4281765
Abstract: A network for separating an article-detect signal into a number of parts corresponding to the number of articles randomly disposed in next-abutting relationship is characterized by a circuit arrangement adapted to sample and hold a predetermined percentage of the peak magnitude of a characteristic signal representative of each article, a comparator for comparing the instantaneous value of the characteristic signal with the predetermined peak and for generating an enabling signal when the instantaneous characteristic signal falls below the predetermined percentage, and a timer responsive to the enabling signal to interrupt the article-detect signal for a predetermined time interval after a predetermined time delay.
