Patent number: 9757744Abstract: A material spreader assembly for the broadcast spreading of particulate material from the trailer hitch of a vehicle. A hopper for storing the particulate material is supported by a frame having a trailer hitch coupler for connection to the vehicle. A spreader including a spinner driven by an electric motor receives and disperses the particulate material. A control circuit receives electric current from the vehicle via a plug interface and a wiring harness and controls the operation of the spreader. A remote communicates user commands to the control circuit. The control circuit includes a motor control processor that controls a motor power relay and a motor driver to gradually ramp up the current supplied to the spreader for start up the spreader while preventing a high transient current draw spike. Component feedback sensors enable the motor control processor to provide an emergency shut off feature and warning signals.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 2015Date of Patent: September 12, 2017Assignee: Trynex International LLCInventors: Charles Truan, James Truan, Joshua Scott, Greg Neilson, Erwin Neilson, Paul Mandrik

Patent number: 9296571Abstract: The subject invention provides an improved material spreader assembly for mounting in a truck bed of a vehicle. A hopper carrying a material to be dispersed is supported in the truck bed. An auger is disposed within the hopper to convey the material towards an outlet. A spinner assembly is longitudinally spaced from the outlet of the hopper. An extension assembly extends between the outlet of the hopper and the spinner assembly conveying the material therebetween. This allows for a cab-forward placement of the hopper and frame thereby moving the weight of the filled hopper and the frame forward towards the front of the vehicle resulting in improved weight distribution.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 2014Date of Patent: March 29, 2016Inventors: Charles Truan, Everett Hughes, Greg Neilson, Paul Yagiela

Patent number: 9271441Abstract: A material spreader having a beater bar that meters the supply of small quantities of material to the discharge opening of a material spreader hopper eliminating the need for a gate. The beater bar has one and preferably several paddles that rotate adjacent the discharge opening and as the paddle passes the opening, discharges only the amount of material on the paddle. The material spreader uses a high ratio transmission and low rpm motor to allow for extremely slow rotation of the beater bar. The motor speed can be controlled to allow very slow rotation and very small amounts of material to be discharged from the hopper. The spreader does not require a gate. The discharge of material is metered electronically.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 2014Date of Patent: March 1, 2016Assignee: Douglas Dynamics, L.L.C.Inventors: Charles Truan, Barry Truan

Publication number: 20160045877Abstract: The invention relates generally to a mixing system for mixing a dry material with a liquid. The mixing system includes a supply of dry material and a supply of liquid. An infinitely variable metering device meters the dry material into the liquid. A sensor senses the ratio of dry material to liquid. The sensor is operatively connected to the metering device to control the metering device to obtain a desired ratio of dry material to liquid. The dry material is dispensed volumetrically by volume of liquid to form the desired ratio of dry material to liquid.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 15, 2014Publication date: February 18, 2016Inventors: Charles Truan, Barry Truan
