In some embodiments, the heating apparatus is a battery powered heating apparatus suitable for burning or vaporizing a vaporizable material, such as an oil, wax, or liquid that when vaporized may be inhaled by a user. The heating apparatus includes a deployable element including a resistive element. In some embodiments, the heating apparatus has variable heat settings for the resistive element, controllable by the user through a user input (e.g., a button). In some embodiments, an indicator provides output communication to the user. The heating apparatus may include a power supply such as a rechargeable battery to supply power to the resistive element.
