  • Patent number: 8601358
Abstract: The disclosure is related to systems and methods for checking the integrity of a data transfer to or from a buffer or other data storage medium. Check values can be added to a data object in a data object based file system. From the check values, a device receiving the data object may determine an integrity or validity of the received data object based on the check values. In a particular embodiment, a hash value may be determined based on the check values. The hash value may be stored in the metadata of the transferred data object. The receiving device may re-calculate the hash value from the check values and compare it to the stored hash value to determine an integrity of the received data object.

  • Patent number: 7031085
Abstract: The present invention is a disc drive storage unit incorporating novel apparatus, data structure and method for uniquely identifying data written during each write command operation of the disc drive storage unit. The disc drive storage unit attaches unique write identification data (sequence data, time data, or both) to host computer data written during each sector write operation. The unique write identification data is attached through independent action of the disc drive storage unit. The unique write identification data is attached to the host computer data in such a way that the unique write identification data is transparent to the host computer. The data structure relates the host computer data to the unique write identification data. The method documents the manner in which unique identification data is attached to, and detached from, the host computer data.

  • Patent number: 7005817
Abstract: A disc drive includes a disc mounted to a rotatable spindle, a motor coupled to the spindle, and motor control circuitry. The motor has a motoring mode in which it rotates the spindle and a braking mode in which is decelerates the rotating spindle and generates power. The motor control circuitry is adapted to control the modes of the motor. The disc drive also includes an auxiliary power output that is generated while operating the motor in the braking mode. The auxiliary power output is made accessible to electronic components that are collateral to the disc drive.

  • Patent number: 6529971
Abstract: According to one embodiment of the present invention a method of operating a data network loop having at least two nodes includes monitoring deletions in an adaptive elasticity first-in, first-out (FIFO) buffer in each node, identifying each adaptive elasticity FIFO buffer that is a deleter, the deleter being an adaptive elasticity FIFO buffer for which information is deleted more often than information is inserted, and reducing a deletion threshold for each adaptive elasticity FIFO buffer that is a deleter. According to another embodiment of the present invention a buffer includes an adaptive elasticity FIFO buffer and a control circuit operatively configured to monitor deletions in the adaptive elasticity FIFO buffer, determine if the adaptive elasticity FIFO buffer is a deleter, and reduce a deletion threshold for the adaptive elasticity FIFO buffer if the adaptive elasticity FIFO buffer is a deleter.

  • Patent number: 6295010
Abstract: According to one embodiment of the present invention a number of input bits are received in a first encoder circuit and the input bits are encoded to generate encoded bits in the first encoder circuit. An input disparity bit is generated from the encoded bits, and the input bits and the input disparity bit are received in a second encoder circuit. The input bits are then encoded into a number of output bits based on the input disparity bit in the second encoder circuit. According to another embodiment of the present invention an encoder system includes a first encoder circuit having a number of inputs coupled to receive a number of input signals, to encode the input signals, and to generate a disparity signal at an output based on the encoded input signals.
