  • Patent number: 9101968
Abstract: A landfill soil cover system is proposed for preventing water infiltration into a landfill and gas emission from the landfill under all weather conditions. The landfill cover system comprises three soil layers; namely, a clay layer, a gravelly sand layer and a silt layer, compacted successively from the bottom to the top of the system. The clay layer is compacted immediately above an optional gas collection layer and landfill waste at an optimum water content. Additionally, a trench for water drainage may be constructed, for example, every 20-40 m in the horizontal direction. Water infiltration and landfill gas emission can be prevented effectively by this landfill soil cover system under any humid, semi-arid and arid climates.

  • Patent number: 8613967
Abstract: The invention provides a stable concentrated dairy liquid, such as concentrated milk, with improved flavor, color, and mouthfeel, and a method of production thereof. The method utilizes specific thermal treatments to produce the stable concentrated dairy liquid to which a stabilizer and mouthfeel enhancer are added. The resulting products have a sterilization value Fo of at least 5 that is also resistant to gelling and browning during high temperature sterilization and is also resistant to gelling and browning during storage for greater than six months. The method balances such thermal treatments with addition of stabilizer and enhancer to achieve the desired flavor/mouthfeel and sterilization and to achieve reduced level of soluble protein in the concentrated milk prior to concentration to resist gelation and minimize browning. Moreover, such processing may be utilized in a milk that is concentrated to a factor of 2.7 fold or higher and contains at least 8.5 percent protein.

  • Patent number: 8488628
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for negotiating an LLC frame size for a UMA/GAN network. A calculator, embodied at a mobile station, calculates an optimal frame size, i.e., an N201-U value. A negotiation initiator initiates a frame size negotiation with a network entity. The frame size negotiation utilizes the calculated optimal frame size. And, a frame size is allocated responsive to the negotiation. The allocated frame size is used in the formation of user data packets that are constrained to be of sizes that are close to the allocated N201-U value, defined at the LLC layer.

  • Publication number: 20120155490
Abstract: A process transfers data packets through a protocol stack employed by a device that transmits packets on a packet connection to a wireless network between at least two, distinct wireless access technologies such as GSM/GPRS and UMTS. A first layer of the stack stores a copy of a transferred packet until confirmation is received from a next, lower layer of successful transfer of the packet of the stack. In the absence of such confirmation and on the occurrence of a switch of the packet connection to a new connection path, particularly one of a different wireless access technology, the stored packet is transferred to the protocol stack to be employed by the wireless device for the new packet connection path. Consequently, the packet transfer process avoids packets being lost on the occurrence of a switch between different technology wireless access packet connection paths.
