Patent number: 9890598Abstract: A key assembly is press fit into an annular space between a box and pin member to resist relative rotation of the box and pin members. The key assembly includes wedge like members that contact one another along complementary tapered surfaces, and when in contact generate radial forces into the box and pin member to secure the connection between the box and pin. The outer wedge is inserted first into the annular space between the box and pin members, and has rows of elongate teeth that project radially outward into contact with an inner surface of the box member. Because the outer wedge is pushed radially outward against the box member rather than axially sliding therebetween, the teeth protrude into the surface of the box member thereby increasing the anti-rotation force created by the outer wedge.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2012Date of Patent: February 13, 2018Assignee: Vetco Gray Inc.Inventors: Thomas L. Steen, John E. Nelson, Chau Hoang, Daniel C. Benson, Stephen D. Peters

Patent number: 8870186Abstract: A seal assembly for use with a casing hanger that includes a pair of split rings held together by a threaded fastener. Torqueing the fastener axially compresses one of the rings so that it expands radially inward into sealing engagement with a wall of wellbore casing, and radially outward against an inner wall of a wellhead housing. Support grommets are provided where the fastener enters and exits the compressible ring. Protrusions on a side of the support grommets project into the compressible ring and create a sealing interface between each support grommet and compressible ring. O-rings line inner circumferences of the support grommets to seal between the support grommets and fasteners. A threaded end on a lower end of the fastener has a diameter less than an inner diameter of the O-rings to prevent damaging the O-rings during assembly.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 2012Date of Patent: October 28, 2014Assignee: Vetco Gray Inc.Inventors: Chau Hoang, Khanh Anh Duong, William Ryan Moore, Karl A. Parfrey, Clayton Griffin

Patent number: 8672290Abstract: A gate valve assembly having a body, a gate, a stem, and a backseat for sealing between the stem and the body. The backseat is an annular member with a complementary surface on its inside that fits over a spherically shaped section of the stem; thus allowing the backseat to rotate and pivot with respect to the stem. An outer surface of the backseat is beveled for sealingly engaging a stem passage formed through the body. A flex member is provided that is for sealing a surface adjacent the backseat. The flex member can form a seal between the backseat member and the stem or between an annular retainer and the backseat.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2012Date of Patent: March 18, 2014Assignee: Vetco Gray Inc.Inventors: Chau Hoang, David Daniel Comeaux, Theerapong Prachakvej

Publication number: 20140061522Abstract: An actuator for a gate valve having a gate has a stem coupled to a gate. A spring is coupled to the stem and has an extended length position while the gate is in a closed position and a contracted length position while the gate is in an open position. The spring has a degressive characteristic such that a graph of a force required to move the gate from the closed position to the open position versus a deflection of the spring is a nonlinear curve with a positive slope that decreases when moving from the closed to the open position. The spring may be an array of wavy springs arranged in nested and in valley-to-crest combinations.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 5, 2012Publication date: March 6, 2014Applicant: VETCO GRAY INC.Inventors: Mihirkumar Pravinbhai Patel, David D. Patent number: 8622939Abstract: An apparatus for applying movement to the joints of a human patient is provided. The apparatus includes an exoskeleton assembly with segments that can be secured to the patient. One or more motor modules are removably coupled to a supporting structure of the exoskeleton assembly, and each motor module includes multiple motor drives. A plurality of actuating members is operatively connected to each motor module. A first end of each actuating member is connected to one of the motor drives and a second end of each actuating member is coupled to a segment of the exoskeleton assembly. Each actuating member can be driven by a respective motor drive to impart movement in multiple degrees of freedom to individual joints.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 2010Date of Patent: January 7, 2014Assignee: BES Rehab Ltd.Inventor: Chau Hoang Thanh Nguyen

Publication number: 20130341051Abstract: A wellhead assembly having an inner tubular insertable into an outer tubular. A packoff is provided on an outer surface of the inner tubular for sealing between the inner and outer tubulars. The packoff includes an energizing ring, a U-shaped seal member, and a nut for retaining the seal member against the energizing ring. The seal member includes legs that are spaced apart by interaction with the energizing ring. The outer tubular has a bore wall that is profiled so that when the inner tubular is inserted into the outer tubular, an outer leg of the seal member is spaced radially outward from the bore wall until the inner tubular is landed in the outer tubular. When the inner tubular member is landed, a portion of the bore wall adjacent the outer leg tapers radially inward into sealing contact with the outer leg of the seal member.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 22, 2012Publication date: December 26, 2013Applicant: Vetco Gray, Inc.Inventors: William Thompson Higgins, John E. Patent number: 6454015Abstract: A gate valve has downstream shear and seal capabilities in which the gate will stroke far enough to cover the downstream seat interface, and has a single shearing surface for shearing of a wireline. The gate has an inlay of a hard ductile material such as Stellite® along the shearing edge of the gate. The gate also has a coating of an extremely hard material such as tungsten carbide on the sealing surface of the gate. The seat also has an inlay of a hard ductile material such as Stellite® along its shearing edge. The gate fully covers and seals the upstream seat interface after the shear media has fallen below the upstream gate/seat interface. An upstream lip seal for the upstream seat ring is energized to seal on upstream pressure.Type: GrantFiled: July 5, 2000Date of Patent: September 24, 2002Assignee: ABB Vetco Gray Inc.Inventors: John Taylor Armstrong, Ian Gourlay, Peter Kent, Chau Hoang
