Abstract: A mainboard device and an update method of the basic input-output system thereof are provided. The mainboard device includes a flash memory, a universal serial bus (USB) port, and a microprocessor. The code of the basic input-output system is stored in the flash memory. The USB port is connected to an external USB device, wherein the external USB device includes a supply power and stores an update code. The microprocessor includes a power-switching device coupled to the system power and the USB port. When the power-switching device detects that the system power does not provide power and the USB port is provided with the supply power, the microprocessor provides power to the flash memory based on the supply power, and the microprocessor accesses the update code of the external USB device to perform an update operation on the code in the flash memory.

Abstract: A charge controller has a printed circuit board (PCB), a first transmission interface, a second transmission interface, and a recognition integrated circuit (IC). The recognition IC of the charge controller recognizes a type of a second electronic device coupled to the second transmission interface, so that a power source of a first electronic device coupled to the first transmission interface in the charge controller is charged in the second electronic device. A portable device applying the charge controller is also described.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a security system for a software. The security system for a software includes an IC card interface electrically connected to the input/output interface of the computer, and an IC card storing therein a computer authentication signal of the software for reading a user authentication signal sent by the software via the IC card interface, checking if the user authentication signal is consistent with the computer authentication signal, and sending a confirmation signal to initiate the software when the user authentication signal is consistent with the computer authentication signal.

Abstract: A starter for starting a computer system is provided. The starter includes: an IC card interface for generating an enable signal when an IC card is inserted; a register set for storing a command provided to the IC card and a computer secure check signal and detecting whether a user secure check signal matches the computer secure check signal or not; a state machine for reading the user secure check signal from the IC card interface to proceed a secure check process, generating a verification signal when the user secure check signal matches the computer secure check signal, and generating a reset signal to reset the IC card and proceed the computer secure check process again when the user secure check signal matches the computer secure check signal; and a power control circuit for generating a Power On signal to a power supply of the computer system in response to the check signal and starting the computer system.
