  • Patent number: 7121229
Abstract: In a method and system for evaluating interest of a tested animal, first and second dispensers for dispensing respectively a vital first liquid and a second liquid are provided in a closed space confined by a housing for containing the tested animal. The first dispenser dispenses the first liquid at a first position that is easily accessible to the tested animal. The second dispenser dispenses the second liquid at a second position higher than the first position so as to be less easily accessible to the tested animal. Amounts of the first and second liquids consumed by the tested animal within a predetermined time period are measured. The consumed amounts of the first and second liquids are subsequently compared to evaluate interest of the tested animal.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 6955139
Abstract: The tail suspension test apparatus for detecting a struggling state of an animal by suspending a tail of the animal includes an optical mouse, an opaque piece located within a sensing range of the optical mouse, and a fixing device connected with the opaque piece for fixing the tail of the animal. When the animal is struggling, an action of the opaque piece is induced and detected by the optical mouse.

  • Patent number: 6799535
Abstract: In a method and system for measuring mobility of a tested animal, a lower float portion of a float member floats on a liquid body disposed in a container. An upper detected portion of the float member vertically opposite to the lower float portion is disposed above the liquid body. The tested animal is placed in the liquid body such that movement of the tested animal in the liquid body results in surface waves of the liquid body and that the upper, detected portion moves according to the surface waves reaching the lower float portion. Positions of the upper detected portion are optically detected during a time period. Position information of the tested animal in the liquid body is then determined from the detected positions.
