The methods may include obtaining a sample from the subject, determining an expression level of at least one biomarker selected from the group consisting of VEGF-D and PlGF in a sample from the subject, comparing the expression level of the biomarker in the sample to a reference level of the biomarker, and predicting the responsiveness of the cancer to treatment with the cancer therapy including a VEGF targeting agent. Optionally, the methods may further include administering a VEGF target agent and/or an anticancer or chemotherapy agent to the subject. Additional methods of prognosing and treating a cancer in a subject are also provided.
