Patent number: 7839734Abstract: The invention provides a method for controlling spherical aberration correction for an optical disk drive. First, a collimator lens is moved to a first target position for spherical aberration correction. A driving time of motion of the collimator lens is then calculated. A prohibiting time is then determined according to the driving time. The collimator lens is then prevented from moving until the prohibiting time elapses.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 2008Date of Patent: November 23, 2010Assignee: Mediatek Inc.Inventors: Chao-Ming Huang, Cheng-Chi Huang, Yu-Chen Kuei

Patent number: 7666114Abstract: An electric variable inertia apparatus uses a servo drive device to drive a planetary gear mechanism to which a load assembly is attached to provide variable and wide-ranging rotational inertia. A planetary frame and a ring gear of the planetary gear mechanism act as two input ends of the electric variable inertia apparatus, and a rotated shaft of a sun gear assembly of the planetary gear mechanism acts as a load terminal. The load assembly is rotated at a controlled rotational velocity with the ring gear to generate a widely ranging rotational inertia to change a dissipating degree of an input energy from the planetary frame. The electric variable inertia apparatus can be used in different fields such as shock absorbers, stabilizers, dampers or vibrators in the automotive field, etc.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 2007Date of Patent: February 23, 2010Assignee: National Formosa UniversityInventors: Bor-Jeng Lin, Mi-Ching Tsai, Cheng-Chi Huang, Li-Jung Tu

Patent number: 5434918Abstract: An authentication method that permits a user and a file serving workstation to mutually authenticate themselves. This is accomplished by exchanging a random number that is encrypted by a password that is known to the user and stored in a password file on the file serving workstation. A logon ID is sent from the client workstation to the server workstation. The stored user password corresponding to the user ID is retrieved from the password file. A random number is created that is encrypted by a symmetric encryption algorithm on the server workstation using the retrieved user password, and which provides an encrypted password. The user is then requested to enter the password into the user workstation. The entered password is used to decrypt the encrypted password received from the server workstation and retrieve the random number therefrom to authenticate the server workstation. The random number is then used as the encryption and decryption key for communication between the user and server workstations.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1993Date of Patent: July 18, 1995Assignee: Hughes Aircraft CompanyInventors: Kenneth C.
