    Abstract: A seal of controlled detachability between a propylene polymer, such as polypropylene, heat sealed to an enamel coated surface comprised of an epoxy resin, an aminoplant resin and an adhesion promoting amount of a carboxylated polypropylene resin, is obtained by incorporating a butene polymer such as polybutene in the enamel coating composition prior to its application to a metal surface.

    Abstract: Metal containers are internally coated with a coating composition having a reduced tendency to absorb odor which deleteriously affect comestibles packaged therein, the coating being an aqueous dispersion of a vehicle comprised of a combination of heat curable thermosetting aromatic polyepoxide resin and a carboxyl containing polyester resin prepared from an aromatic polyepoxide and a mixture of polycarboxylic acids comprised of a major amount of an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid and a minor amount of an aromatic tricarboxylic acid.

  • Method for preparing dispersions of propylene polymers

    Abstract: Stable dispersions of propylene polymer resins which can be fused to form smooth, uniform, pinhole-free coatings are prepared by admixing the resin in particulate form having a median diameter of 0.1-50 microns with an organic liquid having a boiling point above 300.degree. F. and a density approximately equal to the resin, the resin being insoluble and dispersible in the liquid at room temperature and soluble in the liquid at temperatures above 350.degree. F.

  • Method of improving the adhesion of propylene polymers to enamel coated metal surfaces

    Abstract: Propylene polymers are heat sealed to enamel coated metal surfaces, the enamel having incorporated therein an adhesion promoting carboxyl modified polypropylene resin. The bond strength of the heat seal is improved by incorporating the carboxyl modified polypropylene resin in the enamel coating formulation dissolved in a hot (heated above 100.degree. C) organic solvent solution selected from aliphatic acids, alcohols and hydrocarbons having at least 10 carbon atoms.
