Patent number: 4472165Abstract: A method for the removal of free formaldehyde from textile fabrics which have been treated with formaldehyde derived resins to make the fabrics crease-resistant is disclosed. The process comprises forming a composition composed of a foaming agent, ethylene urea and an appropriate diluent and then foaming this composition to form a stable foam. The foam is then applied to the resin treated fabric in a layer, the foam is collapsed on the fabric to force it through the fabric and then the fabric is subjected to drying and curing conditions. The process is advantageous in that it utilizes relatively small volumes of liquids and thus is energy efficient and environmentally favorable.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1982Date of Patent: September 18, 1984Assignee: United Merchants and Manufacturers, Inc.Inventors: Razmic S. Gregorian, Chettoor G. Namboodri

Patent number: 4427409Abstract: A method for desizing, scouring and/or bleaching and/or mercerizing textile fabrics by foaming a composition containing an appropriate desizing, bleaching or scouring agent and a foam system to a blow ratio from about 2:1 to 30:1 and a foam density in the range from about 0.5 g/cc to 0.033 g/cc. The foam is applied to the surface of the fabric in a uniform thickness and is then collapsed and forced through the fabric. The fabric is then batched to allow the particular desizing agent, bleaching agent, scouring agent or mercerizing agent to be effective and then the fabric is rinsed. With the inventive process, a substantial reduction in the liquid volume normally required for such treatments as well as improved end results are obtained.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 1982Date of Patent: January 24, 1984Assignee: United Merchants and Manufactures, Inc.Inventors: Razmic S. Gregorian, Chettoor G. Namboodri

Patent number: 4397650Abstract: Disclosed herein is a process for coloring textile materials to produce random dyed effects wherein a coloring material is added to a foamed composition either before or after the foamed composition is coated onto a textile. The foam is then collapsed to penetrate the coloring material into the textile, and, finally, the textile is dried and cured or fixed.Type: GrantFiled: July 28, 1981Date of Patent: August 9, 1983Assignee: United Merchants & Manufacturers, Inc.Inventors: Razmic S. Gregorian, Chettoor G. Namboodri

Patent number: 4365968Abstract: Disclosed herein is a process for treating textile materials with finishing agents wherein a first finishing agent-containing composition is applied to a textile material and a second composition, in the form of a foam, is thereafter applied to the textile prior to fixation of the the first applied composition. The first composition may also be applied in the form of a foam if desired. The compositions may also contain reactive materials therein.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 1981Date of Patent: December 28, 1982Assignee: United Merchants & Manufacturers, Inc.Inventors: Razmic S. Gregorian, Chettoor G. Namboodri, John D. Johnson

Patent number: 4347145Abstract: A foamable composition suitable for treating fabrics with finishing agents in which a minimum amount of foaming agent is utilized. Up to about 10 percent of foaming system is included in the composition with the ratio of active solids to foaming system being in excess of 8:1. The foam composition may be provided in the form of a paste-like, substantially liquid free admixture of a foaming system and finishing agent.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 1980Date of Patent: August 31, 1982Assignee: United Merchants & Manufacturers, Inc.Inventors: Razmic S. Gregorian, Chettoor G. Namboodri

Patent number: 4334877Abstract: Foamable fabric treatment compositions are disclosed which are composed of a fabric finishing agent and a foam stabilizer, which compositions are capable of forming a foam having a blow ratio in the range from about 2:1 to 20:1 and a foam density range from about 0.5 gm/cc to 0.05 gm/cc. Methods for preparing and using the foamable compositions are disclosed. Included in the composition is up to about 10 percent of foam stabilizer.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 1980Date of Patent: June 15, 1982Assignee: United Merchants & Manufacturers Inc.Inventors: Razmic S. Patent number: 4299591Abstract: Disclosed herein is a process for printing on textile materials, particularly pile type fabrics, wherein a foamed printing composition is first applied to the textile material; a second foamed composition is thereafter uniformly applied onto the textile over the printing composition prior to fixation of the latter; the second applied foam is then collapsed to form a pre-selected print on the textile; and the printed textile is then subjected to color fixation.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 1978Date of Patent: November 10, 1981Assignee: United Merchants and Manufacturers, Inc.Inventors: Razmic S. Gregorian, Chettoor G. Namboodri

Patent number: 4193762Abstract: A process for the treatment of textile materials, such as woven fabrics, with finishing agents such as dyestuffs, waterproofing materials and the like. The finishing agent is applied in a foam composition to a downwardly moving length of textile material immediately prior to the passage of the material through a pair of horizontally disposed pressure rollers. A predetermined quantity of the foam composition is maintained just prior to the pressure rollers in a dam through which the textile material passes. The pressure rollers break the foam and impregnate the finishing agent into the textile which is thereafter dried and/or cured/or fixed.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 1978Date of Patent: March 18, 1980Assignee: United Merchants and Manufacturers, Inc.Inventor: Chettoor G.
