    Abstract: A formaldehyde detecting device includes a formaldehyde detecting unit which includes a formaldehyde detecting layer, a diffusion restricting member and a concentration indicator. The formaldehyde detecting layer includes a formaldehyde detecting material that develops color when reacting with formaldehyde. The diffusion restricting member is disposed on the formaldehyde detecting layer and permits a restricted amount of formaldehyde to pass therethrough to react with the formaldehyde detecting material. Concentration of formaldehyde is determined based on a color change on the formaldehyde detecting layer, and is indicated by the concentration indicator.

    Abstract: A planar separation component for gas chromatograph includes a substrate made of aluminum, a porous anodic aluminum oxide separation member, and a cover unit. The substrate has a planar body, and a first flow channel having a first inlet and a first outlet. The separation member is formed on the substrate, and has a channel-defining wall defining the first flow channel and a plurality of nanosized pores in spatial communication with the first flow channel. The cover unit is bonded to the planar body for covering the first flow channel. Methods for manufacturing the planar separation component and separating a mixture containing compounds different in boiling point using the planar separation component are also disclosed.

    Abstract: A porous poly(2-acryl-amido-2-methyl-propane sulphonic acid)-based humidity sensing element is disclosed which provides improved range of humidity measurement and response time with little or no hysteresis. It includes: (a) a non-conductive substrate which has a pair of electrodes formed thereon; (b) a porous poly(2-acryl-amido-2-methyl-propane sulphonic acid) film formed on said electrodes. The porous poly(2-acryl-amido-2-methyl-propane sulphonic acid) film is formed by first forming a non-porous poly(2-acryl-amido-2-methyl-propane sulphonic acid) film on the electrodes, then subjecting the non-porous poly(2-acryl-amido-2-methyl-propane sulphonic acid) film to a heat treatment at temperatures between about 170° C. and 240° C. such that a porous structure is formed in said poly(2-acryl-amido-2-methyl-propane sulphonic acid) film.
