  • Patent number: 11758057
Abstract: Dimensioning a policy and charging rules function (PCRF) of a communication system comprises: determining a number of processing nodes of the PCRF at a time; determining a first transaction parameter indicating a number of transactions per second exchanged by the nodes at the time; determining a load parameter indicating processing load of the nodes at the time; based on the first transaction parameter, the load parameter, the number of nodes, and allowable processing load that the nodes are set, determining a second transaction parameter indicating a number of transactions per second expected for exchange at the time by the nodes set at the allowable processing load; forecasting the first and second transaction parameters for a following time thereby obtaining forecasted first and second transaction parameters; and determining a number of nodes required at the following time according to the forecasted first and second transaction parameters.

  • Patent number: 7113791
Abstract: A method of assessing traffic and performance characteristics of a mobile telecommunications network in terms of the level of service has inputs as to performance requirements for voice traffic and voice loss, data traffic or data loss, information with respect to the voice traffic offered and the data traffic offered and average length of an individual message. The determination is made on the basis of the number of radio slots which are allocable to data traffic and on the basis of an exponential distribution of the average call waiting time in the queue.

  • Publication number: 20040116124
Abstract: This invention refers to a method(10) for assessing the characteristics obtainable in a network for mobile telecommunications apparatuses suitable for managing calls with both data traffic and/or voice and data traffic. On the basis of the performance requested for the quantity (20, 30) and characteristics (40, 50) of the traffic required, the method (10) provides a simple manner for determining both the effective performance (70) of the network, in terms of the probability of complete occupation of the radio channels and the probability of dropped calls during the peak traffic periods, and optimal dimensioning (60) of the network.
