  • Patent number: 7020046
Abstract: An underwater target tracking capability is disclosed for a grid-search technique utilizing parameter evaluation plot techniques comprising processing acoustic sonar measurements in conjunction with additional kinematics and environmental information. In the implementation described here, the measurements considered are passive broadband sphere bearings together with limiting knowledge of target speed and range at initial detection. These information sources are processed in a manner especially suited to enable rapid response to the emerging tactical situation.

  • Patent number: 6611824
Abstract: A system for bearinqs-only contact state estimation in response to target bearing and ownship speed and course information provided for a plurality of observation legs at successive points in time, includes a plurality of neural networks and a data fusion circuit. Each of the neural networks generates range-normalized parameter estimate information for one of the observation legs in response to target bearing and ownship speed and course information for an associated one of the observation legs, provided thereto at each point in time and information generated for the previous point in time. The data fusion system receives the range-normalized parameter estimate information from the neural networks and generates the contact state estimate in response thereto.

  • Publication number: 20020099672
Abstract: A fuzzy inference system and method are disclosed that may be used not only with known or definite data input but also with uncertain data input. The uncertain data input may be represented by a set of values wherein the possibility of any particular or specific value within the set being the true or accurate value is uncertain. A set of rules are provided within a rule decomposer that are used to produce a plurality of mappings such as a plurality of one dimensional solutions. A union operator is utilized for determining a conjunction of the plurality of mappings such as the plurality of one dimensional solutions. The system output may then be used for control purposes such as, for example only, a combat control system to provide a tactical picture, decision assist, presets for a guidance system, or the like.

  • Patent number: 6374197
Abstract: A fuzzy logic based model assessment system assesses models of physical phenomena and in one example, is used for contact tracking. The system uses measurement residual values representing the difference between a measured data sequence corresponding to the physical phenomena and an expected data sequence corresponding to the model to be assessed. The system includes a feature identification module for identifying one or more features or tracking anomalies in the measurement residual values, such as jump and drift, and for generating feature amplitude values and feature amplitude standard deviation values. An anomaly characterization module characterizes the features in one or more membership classes representing the strength of the identified feature and generates class membership intervals representing a range of degrees of membership in each of the classes (e.g., null, weak, moderate or strong).

  • Patent number: 6282526
Abstract: A fuzzy logic information processing system and method are disclosed that may be used not only with known or definite data input but also with uncertain data input. The uncertain data input may be represented by a set of values wherein the possibility of any particular or specific value within the set being the true or accurate value is uncertain. The preferred embodiment of the system provides for an extensor to extend or map a representation of the uncertain data into at least one additional dimension related to dimensions of a set of rules used for making fuzzy logic inferences. The set of rules may be provided effectively in a mapped or graphed form. The set of rules and uncertain data are combined, for instance by locating intersection regions, to produce an output set that may be also be described as a map or plot. In a presently preferred embodiment the uncertain inputs and rules are represented mathematically or symbolically and then operated on to produce an output set.

  • Patent number: 5802369
Abstract: A system and method for signal processing using wavelets are disclosed. The method includes the steps of generating a wavelet decomposition tree modeling the signal. The tree includes a plurality of levels of wavelet coefficients representative of the signal. The method further includes determining the actual number of wavelet coefficients available at each of the plurality of levels; measuring mean energy for each of the plurality of levels; and determining a desired number of wavelet coefficients for each of the plurality of levels based on the mean energy determined in the step of measuring. The mean energy in the step of measuring for each of the plurality of levels is indicative of the desired number of wavelet coefficients selected from each of the plurality of level. The method further includes the step of retaining the desired number of wavelet coefficients and forming a compressed representation of the signal.
