    Abstract: An illumination system including an excitation light source, a transparent substrate, a dichroic film, a first color wheel element and a light uniforming element are provided. The excitation light source emits a first color light. The first color wheel element includes a wavelength conversion material. The first color wheel element has a first side and a second side. The first color light passes through a solid structure of the transparent substrate and the dichroic film, and is transmitted to the first color wheel element and converted into a second color light by the wavelength conversion material. A first part of the second color light is transmitted towards the dichroic film, and is reflected back to the first color wheel element by the dichroic film to enter the light uniforming element. A second part of the second color light passes through the first color wheel element to enter the light uniforming element.

The first light-emitting module emits a first color light including a first partial light and a second partial light. The first partial light is converged to the wavelength conversion unit, the second partial light passes by a location beside the wavelength conversion unit, and the wavelength conversion unit converts the first partial light into a converted light, where a wavelength of the converted light is greater than a wavelength of the first color light. The spherical-shell-shaped dichroic film is pervious to the at least one first color light, and reflects the converted light, where the converted light coming from the wavelength conversion unit is reflected by the spherical-shell-shaped dichroic film, and at least partially coincides with the second partial light. A projection apparatus is also provided.

The wavelength maintaining portion surrounds the rotation axis and is adapted to receive the first beam and guide a second portion of the first beam. A ratio of the first portion of the first beam with respect to the first beam is greater than a ratio of the second portion of the first beam with respect to the first beam. The illumination system and the wavelength conversion device in the projector reduce the number of optical elements, thereby reducing the cost and the size of the projector.
