  • Publication number: 20060202158
Abstract: The present invention relates to organic peroxide formulations that contain a reactive, compatible dye or pigment and their use in systems involving free radical reactions such as monomer polymerizations, resin and elastomer curing and polymer modifications. The dye or pigment appears red in the organic peroxide composition and during mixing of the organic peroxide with monomers, polymers and other systems to which organic peroxides are typically added before their use to generate free radicals. Once conditions are applied to decompose the peroxide into free radicals, the desired curing, crosslinking or polymerization reaction occurs and the red color disappears. The red color does not persist in the product at the end of the reaction and therefore does not adversely affect the desired final color of the reaction product.

  • Patent number: 5328948
Abstract: A composition comprising a halopolymer, such as an ethylene/chlorotrifluoroethylene copolymer, an effective stabilizing amount of an ionomer, and an effective stabilizing amount of a compound such as a phosphite of an organic polyhydric phenol; a thioester; a phosphite; or a hindered phenolic antioxidant. Preferred ionomers are metal salts of ethylene-acrylic acid copolymers, and metal salts of sulfonated polystyrenes. The stabilized halopolymers have improved resistance to thermal degradation and suffer less discoloration when subjected to high melt processing or extrusion molding temperatures.

  • Patent number: 5200503
Abstract: A composition comprising an ethylene/chlorotrifluoroethylene copolymer and an effective stabilizing amount of a phenolic complex of the formula: ##STR1## wherein at least one of R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, and R.sub.5 is --OH, and wherein the remaining R.sub.1 through R.sub.5 is hydrogen or an aliphatic hydrocarbon, and wherein each of R.sub.1 through R.sub.5 may be the same or different provided that at least one of R.sub.1 through R.sub.5 is --OH, and each of R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 is an alkylene group having from 1 to about 10 carbon atoms, and each of R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 may be the same or different. The composition may further include a phosphite, a thioester or sulfide compound, and/or an inorganic filler such as tricalcium aluminate hexahydrate. Such compositions show improved melt stability at high temperatures and are useful as wire and cable coatings, films, and pipes.

  • Patent number: 5051460
Abstract: A stabilized melt processable composition containing a halopolymer (e.g., an ethylene chlorotrifluoroethylene copolymer) and an effective stabilizing amount of an ester of a (4-hydroxy-5-alkylphenyl) alkanoic acid and at least one phosphite. Such compositions may be melt processed and extruded at high temperatures (e.g., up to 305.degree. C.) and retain their stability. These compositions are especially desirable in wire and cable coating applications.
