  • Publication number: 20100110345
Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes a reflective liquid crystal panel (20) having a liquid crystal panel polarization plate (22), a polarization plate (32) provided on a front surface side of the polarization plate (22) with its absorption axis in parallel with an absorption axis of the polarization plate (22), and a negative C plate (31) provided between the liquid crystal panel polarization plate (22) and the polarization plate (32). • Publication number: 20100060824
Abstract: A viewing angle controlling liquid crystal panel in which uniformity of a shielding effect in a screen is further improved is provided. Linearly polarized light enters a liquid crystal layer. Further, the liquid crystal layer is provided, on a light exit side of the liquid crystal layer, with a polarizing plate transmitting only a component of light having exited from the liquid crystal layer which component is parallel to a polarization axis of the linearly polarized light having entered the liquid crystal layer. Liquid crystal molecules contained in the liquid crystal layer are tilted in a direction parallel to or perpendicular to the polarization axis of the linearly polarized light having entered the liquid crystal layer. In addition, an electrode (26) is provided so that two or more different voltages can be applied to the liquid crystal layer simultaneously.

  • Publication number: 20090179840
Abstract: In a display device, a first glass substrate is curved. When signal line driving elements and scanning line driving elements are viewed from a normal direction of a principal surface of the first glass substrate, the signal line driving elements and the scanning line driving elements each have a rectangular or substantially rectangular shape with two longer sides and two shorter sides. The signal line driving elements and the scanning line driving elements are mounted so that the longer sides thereof are parallel or substantially parallel to one another.

  • Publication number: 20090102824
Abstract: In an odd-shaped display whose display area is not rectangular in shape, a defect such as a reduction in the display quality due to the bright line or the like caused by the pixels that are located in a specific portion can be prevented. In an active matrix substrate used as a substrate of such an odd-shaped display in which the distribution area of the pixel electrodes corresponding to the display area has a shape other than rectangular, at least one dummy gate line is formed outside the gate line that is located at the outermost edge on the scanning start side. For peripheral pixels connected to the gate line and the gate line that lies on the scanning end side of the gate line, the gate lines located one row above the respective gate lines are extended on the opposite side of each of the peripheral pixels from the gate line to which the TFT of each of the peripheral pixels is connected. It is preferable that dummy pixels are located on the upper side of the individual peripheral pixels.

  • Patent number: 6738125
Abstract: It is an object of the invention to provide a liquid crystal display apparatus in which the cell gap is uniform and the display quality is high, and also a method for manufacturing the same. In the liquid crystal display apparatus, a color filter side substrate in which a protrusion is formed by a black mask, and a TFT side substrate in which a recess is formed by a resin film such as an orientation film are bonded together via dispersed spacers therebetween, and a liquid crystal is filled between the substrates. In the resin film such as an orientation film, patterning is performed except a portion which is opposed to the protrusion, thereby forming the recess in the TFT side substrate. The formation of the recess prevents the cell gap from being pushed up even when the dispersed spacers are placed on the protrusion. Even in the case where the substrates are not flat, therefore, the cell gap can be maintained uniform.
