  • Patent number: 5104248
Abstract: In a miniature printer including a carriage for motion along a path in linear reciprocating directions having at least one cam surface, a frame including a projection adjacent to the path and a print wheel having at least two levels of print type, a mechanism for shifting the position of the print wheel between the different print type levels. The mechanism is coupled to the print wheel and responsive to contact with the projection as the mechanism travels by the projection in shifting the print wheel position through engagement with the cam surface.

  • Patent number: 4948273
Abstract: A small-sized printer has a carriage moving in front of a platen. A print wheel is rotatably mounted on the carriage and coupled to a print wheel gear. The print wheel gear meshes with two worm gears which extend parallel to the platen. A rack-like cam also lies parallel to the platen and is followed by rocking lever which drives a pivoted hammer support. A pivoted hammer on the pivoted support strikes the inside of the print wheel, forcing an inked character to print on the paper, and rolling the character on the paper as the carriage moves. The two worm gears are powered by a motor which acts through a print drive. Their rotation is controlled so that the print wheel is rotated for print character selection by rotating both worm gears to turn the print wheel gear, the carriage is caused to move along the print line by stopping rotation of one of the worm gears, and the carriage is caused to return to its original position by stopping the other worm gear.

  • Patent number: 4534665
Abstract: A multicolor serial printer has a color switching means interposed between an end of a carriage and type wheels having a group of first-color printing types and a group of second-color printing types. The color switching means has first-color and second color printing stepped surfaces selectively movable into confronting relationship with a member of the carriage. When the member of the carriage abuts on and engages in a first-color printing stepped surface or a second-color printing stepped surface during carriage shifting movement, a presser of a hammer means, mounted on the carriage and positioned within the type wheels, is brought into confronting relation to the group of first-color printing types or the group of second-color printing types for printing a desired character in the group in a first or second color.

  • Patent number: 4270448
Abstract: In a printing device including rotatable character wheels having type characters on the surface thereof and a selection mechanism for selectively bringing a character to a printing position, a drive means is provided for moving the selection mechanism. Coupling between the drive means and the selection mechanism is effected by an electro-magnet, size and power requirements for the electro-magnet being reduced by the fact that the electro-magnet functions only as a coupling means and not as the drive means itself.

  • Patent number: 4165687
Abstract: A small-sized printing apparatus which operates at a low noise level and provides good printing quality includes a plurality of printing rings, each having type characters on the peripheral surface thereof. The printing rings are mounted on a shaft which reciprocates for the purpose of bringing a selected character on each of the rings to a printing position. The shaft reciprocates through forward and reverse directions of rotation. An inking roll transfers ink intermittently to the type characters.

  • Patent number: 4152982
Abstract: A miniature printer especially for use in a small calculator or the like, of the type in which a plurality of character wheels are carried on a rotating drive shaft. The speed of rotation of the drive shaft can be varied so that its speed during character selection is different from that during the resetting of the character wheels.

  • Patent number: 4111117
Abstract: In a printing device, printing type rings are mounted on a rotatable, grooved shaft. Each ring has associated therewith a pawl and a selecting mechanism for engaging the pawl with a selected groove on the printing type ring whereby a selected character on the ring may be brought to an inking position and then to a printing position. Retraction of the pawl by said printing mechanism disengages the pawl and allows the ring to reach a rest or stand-by position.By the use of the retractable pawl a printing device is provided in which only those rings which are about to be used for printing are rotated, and the load on the inking mechanism is greatly decreased. The printing device may therefore be decreased in size and in energy consumption and the wear on the various members of said device is greatly decreased.
