  • Patent number: 11789028
Abstract: A method for determining the risk of acute kidney injury (AKI) in a mammal following cardiac surgery is provided. The method comprises determining the sample value of IL-6 or hFABP concentration, or the ratio of IL-6 to IL-10, in a biological sample from the mammal, either prior to cardiac surgery or within 6 hours following surgery; comparing the sample value to a corresponding reference value; and determining that the mammal is at risk of acute kidney injury following cardiac surgery if the sample value is greater than the corresponding reference value.

  • Publication number: 20180268503
Abstract: A personalized QR or other machine-readable code is presented by a user at an establishment where a selection of items is presented to users. In a preferred embodiment the machine-readable code is printed on or attached to a wearable accessory such as a bracelet or necklace, but could also be carried on a card, for example. The personalized QR code is created based on a person's individual preferences or restrictions. In the food/restaurant example, it is personalized based on the person's allergens. The establishment is provided with a device configured to read the QR code presented by the user and process the individual preferences so as to only present to the user a list of a subset of the available items, all of which meet the user's preferences and/or restriction requirements.

  • Publication number: 20140200184
Abstract: The present invention provides compositions and methods for the detection, treatment, and prevention of a kidney injury. The invention relates to the discovery that chitinase 3-like 1/Brp-39/YKL-40 serves as both a biomarker for the degree of kidney injury and a critical mediator of a reparative response in the kidney.

  • Patent number: 7141382
Abstract: The present disclosure concerns methods of detecting a molecule, interleukin 18, in a sample, and using the detection of IL-18 to predict a condition. In a particular embodiment, the present invention concerns methods of detecting interleukin 18, in a sample, preferably prior to the increase in serum creatinine in a subject predisposed to a condition. In certain embodiments, the methods may comprise obtaining a sample from a subject such as a urine or blood sample and analyzing the sample for the presence or absence of IL-18 to predict a condition for example acute renal failure or organ transplant failure. In another embodiment, the methods may comprise analyzing a sample from a subject for the presence of IL-18 and applying information obtained from analyzing the presence of IL-18 to determine a treatment for a medical condition of the subject.
