  • Patent number: 7284868
Abstract: The invention relates to a projection system using multiple light sources (1) at the same time. The projection system (100) comprises multiple light sources (1), a lens array system for each of the light sources (1), a condenser lens (2), an aperture means (3), a light valve assembly and a projection lens (5) to project an image. The light sources are adapted to each simultaneously illuminate the whole light valve assembly. In one aspect, the invention relates to a system and methods for allowing separately control of brightness, contrast, dichroic color shift or beam uniformity. This controlling or adjustment is performed by controlling and/or adjusting the cross-section of the illumination beam of each of the multiple light sources near the aperture of the aperture means.

  • Patent number: 6773120
Abstract: Optical projection system, comprising a projection lens, illumination optics in front of the projection lens showing a well-defined F# number, and at least one light modulator comprising a plurality of reflective elements, wherein this system shows an optical axis and wherein said illumination optics allow to project light onto the light modulator and said light modulator allows to reflect the light in a controllable manner to different directions, such that ON state light cones, in which light is projected onto the projection lens, as well as OFF state light cones can be formed, wherein said projection lens shows an F# number which is smaller than the F# number of said illumination optics, and wherein the chief ray of the incident light at the light modulator is chosen such that the direction of the chief rays of the obtained ON state light cones differ from the corresponding optical axis, so as to obtain an improved contrast.

  • Patent number: 6416183
Abstract: The present invention to provides a projection system for three-dimensional movement of projected modulated beam. It comprises a stationary light source, a projection lens, an optical path from the light source to the projection lens and a light beam modulating element in the optical path. The light modulating element moves with the projection lens. The image is generated at a location whereafter the modulated beam is not deflected anymore before arriving at the projection lens. Therefore there is no rotation of the modulated light beam around its own optical axis, independent of the direction of projection.
