Abstract: Methods and apparatus, including computer program apparatus, implementing techniques for displaying information to a user of a system for editing documents containing digital artwork objects and for creating and editing such documents. The techniques include receiving a document containing a hierarchy of digital artwork elements; displaying the hierarchy to a user in a graphical representation including representations of elements; and displaying a corresponding thumbnail image with each of the displayed representations. Particular implementations include changing the displayed thumbnails as the corresponding artwork is edited so that the appearance of the thumbnails is synchronized with the appearance of the artwork. In another aspect, the techniques include implementing a capability to nest layers with layers.
