Patent number: 9980300Abstract: Systems, methods, and apparatus for a wearable device to make a link with a communication system are disclosed. In one or more embodiments, a disclosed method for a wearable device to make a link with a communication system comprises transmitting, by the communication system, at least one first signal. The method further comprises receiving, by each of at least two antennas of the wearable device, at least one first signal from the communication system. In one or more embodiments, each of at least two antennas is adaptively excited to steer in a direction towards the communication system and/or steer in a direction to null at least one interferer. Also, the method involves transmitting, by each of at least two antennas of the wearable device, at least one second signal towards the communication system. Further, the method involves receiving, by the communication system, at least one second signal.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 2016Date of Patent: May 22, 2018Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Christ P. Tzelepis, David A. Whelan

Patent number: 8049674Abstract: A wide band antenna tracking modulator and method is disclosed. The system includes a common port for receiving an electromagnetic signal, a waveguide connected to the common port, at least a pair of side arms and a pair of coupling slots separated along an axis of the waveguide coupling the electromagnetic signals between the waveguide and the pair of side arms. The pair of coupling slots substantially coupled a higher order TE mode signal while substantially not coupling a primary TE mode signal. The method includes substantially coupling a higher order Transverse Electric (TE) mode signal of the electromagnetic signal while substantially not coupling a primary TE mode signal of the electromagnetic signal to at least a pair of side arms coupled to the wave guide though a pair of coupling slots separated along the axis of the waveguide.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 2008Date of Patent: November 1, 2011Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Christ P. Tzelepis, Paul J. Tatomir

Patent number: 7872549Abstract: A quasi-lumped resonator apparatus that makes use of an inductive portion having a plurality of spines extending therefrom along at least a portion of a length thereof, and a capacitive portion electrically and physically coupled to an end of the inductive portion. The capacitive portion has a plurality of spaced apart capacitive fringe plates extending therefrom. A housing is included for enclosing the inductive and capacitive portions. In another aspect a method is disclosed for forming a quasi-lumped resonator.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 2008Date of Patent: January 18, 2011Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Paul J. Tatomir, Christ P. Tzelepis

Patent number: 7786945Abstract: A beam waveguide may include a first set of dual offset reflectors and a second set of dual offset reflectors. The first set of dual offset reflectors and the second set of dual offset reflectors may each include reflector geometries to produce a radiation pattern that is symmetric about a first axis between the first and second set of dual offset reflectors and to produce an axi-symmetric beam from the second set of dual offset reflectors that is unaffected by any rotation of the first and second set of dual offset reflectors relative to one another about the first axis.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2007Date of Patent: August 31, 2010Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: John E. Baldauf, Christ P. Tzelepis, Paul C. Werntz, Tom M. Hikido

Patent number: 6031434Abstract: An ortho mode transducer (OMT)/multiplexer assembly having a corrugated junction and a coaxial dual mode waveguide resonator disposed around a central cylindrical waveguide. The corrugated junction diplexes signals, the higher frequencies passing through the central cylindrical waveguide and the lower frequencies passing through the coaxial dual mode resonator. Apertures in the dual mode resonator couple to an exit port and extract a first polarization from the lower frequencies passing through the dual mode resonator. The assembly may include a second aperture in the dual mode resonator for extracting a second polarization in a manner similar to the operation of the first aperture.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 1998Date of Patent: February 29, 2000Assignee: Hughes Electronics CorporationInventors: Paul J.
