  • Patent number: 4639382
Abstract: A method of providing a metal mirror on an article of acrylate or methacrylate synthetic resin in which the surface to be metallized is treated with a solution of tannin in a mixture of water and an organic solvent and the treated surface is then provided with a metal mirror by using an electroless metallization process.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 25, 1982
Date of Patent: January 27, 1987
    Assignee: U.S. Philips Corporation
Inventors: Johannes J. Ponjee, Christiaan J. A. Verwijlen
  • Patent number: 4534929
Abstract: A matrix having a surface of silica glass which is suitable for the manufacture of articles of synthetic resin in which the surface of the matrix comprises a monolayer of an aliphatic alcohol, as well as a method of manufacturing articles having a surface of synthetic resin while using the matrix.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 1, 1983
Date of Patent: August 13, 1985
    Assignee: U.S. Philips Corporation
Inventors: Johannes J. Ponjee, Christiaan J. A. Verwijlen
  • Patent number: 4529618
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of photolithographically treating a substrate, in which a surface of the substrate is treated at least at the area at which it consists of an inorganic material with an organosilicon compound. In order to improve the adhesion of a photolacquer layer to be applied, the organosilicon compound used is a 3-aminopropyl-trialkoxysilane in the form of an aqueous solution.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 3, 1983
Date of Patent: July 16, 1985
    Assignee: U.S. Philips Corporation
    Inventors: Johannes J. Ponjee, Franciscus J. B. Smolders, Christiaan J. A. Verwijlen
  • Patent number: 4521444
Abstract: A method of providing a metal layer on a substrate having an ultra-smooth or microprofiled surface, in which the surface structure is reproduced in the metal layer. On the substrate surface which is hydrophilic or is made hydrophilic, preferably a monomolecular layer of alkoxysilylalkylthiol, an alkoxysilylalkylamine or a chlorosilylalkylthiol is provided as a bonding intermediary in a layer which is at most 15 molecules thick by contact with an atmosphere in which said substance is present in a vapor form. The metal layer is vapor-deposited thereon in a thickness of 50-300 nm.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 5, 1983
Date of Patent: June 4, 1985
    Assignee: U.S. Philips Corporation
    Inventors: Johannes J. Ponjee, Johan W. A. Nelissen, Christiaan J. A. Verwijlen
