    Abstract: It is disclosed a method for controlling the protection switching in a communication network having a ring topology. The method applies when a lockout of protection command is applied at a node, a bidirectional failure occurs on a span connecting the node to an adjacent node, and the lockout of protection command is subsequently removed. The method comprises, at any one of the node and the adjacent node, detecting the failure and, if there is not a further lockout of protection command locally applied at the any one of the node and the adjacent node, sending a request packet carrying a signal fail indication towards the other node.

    Abstract: In order to provide a redundancy mechanism in a packet switched provider network, which allows faster recovery from a failure, it is proposed that in case of a failure, a redundancy mechanism is initiated to reroute packet transmission through the provider network via an alternate path and an address withdrawal message is sent to network nodes along the failed path using data plane protocol. A network node receiving the address withdrawal message will flush MAC addresses it had learned before.

    Abstract: It is disclosed a method for checking connectivity of a bidirectional circular path provided in a communication network comprising a number of nodes connected according to a ring topology. The bidirectional circular path comprises two counter-rotating unidirectional circular paths. The nodes are provided with topology information relating to the communication network. One of the nodes generates a connectivity check packet comprising a TTL field, sets its value based on the topology information, transmits the connectivity check packet along one of the two counter-rotating paths and receives it at the opposite side from the same path. In response to the connectivity check packet, the node generates a connectivity check response packet comprising a TTL field, sets its value based on the topology information and transmits the connectivity check response packet along the other counter-rotating path.

Via a group of user ports data packets containing a same source address and a same destination address are received. A link aggregation of the group of user ports is performed. At a network port, received data packets are transmitted to a far end network edge node. A number of transmitted data packets is determined, and also for each of the user ports a number of data packets lost internally is determined. At the network port, a corrected number of transmitted data packets is indicated to the far end network edge node as the sum of the determined number of transmitted data packets the overall number of data packets lost internally.
