  • Publication number: 20170142771
Abstract: Flexible carrier aggregation is provided for a radio communications system. A capability is determined to communicate over a radio interface using multiple radio frequency component carriers. Each of the multiple component carriers is configurable with one or more control channels in a first mode of operation and with no control channels in a second mode of operation. Configuration information for one of the multiple radio frequency component carriers is signaled to indicate at least one of the component carriers is configured to operate in a selected one of the first mode of operation and the second mode of operation so that a network radio node and a user equipment radio node can communicate using the selected mode of operation.

  • Patent number: 9629098
Abstract: A method and network node (800) for controlling power of uplink transmissions from a user node (802) when switching between a first operating mode and a second operating mode. The network node (800) signals to the user node (802) a first value of a maximum allowed transmit power to be applied when operating in the first operating mode and a second value of the maximum allowed transmit power to be applied when operating in the second operating mode. The user node (802) then uses a transmit power not exceeding the first value when transmitting radio signals in the first operating mode, and uses a transmit power not exceeding the second value when transmitting radio signals in the second operating mode. Thereby, the user node (802) itself regulates the transmit power depending on operating mode without requiring further signalling from the network node (800).

  • Publication number: 20170041920
Abstract: Methods and arrangements are presented wherein a user equipment (UE) supporting a first frequency band HB is enabled to communicate with a network utilizing a second frequency band. The second frequency band is a sub-band of the first frequency band or overlaps with the first frequency band. The UE, which supports the first frequency band, implements the channel numbering scheme of the second frequency band SB which overlaps with the first frequency band HB. This enables the UE supporting the first frequency band HB to recognize the second frequency band SB and communicate with the network when the UE is camped or connected to a cell operating in the second frequency band SB.

  • Patent number: 9553682
Abstract: Testing radio equipment is described wherein an interfering signal is swept in frequency with a step size that is chosen proportional to the bandwidth of the receive channel of the radio equipment. For example, a respective frequency bandwidth (BCh) is determined of a plurality of receive channels of the radio equipment. A proportionality constant is selected for a frequency step size. For each respective receive channel, interfering radio signals are generated and the interfering radio signals are controlled to stepwise sweep in frequency outside of each respective receive channel. The stepwise sweeping of the interfering frequency is performed with a frequency step size that is a product of the respective bandwidth and the selected proportionality constant. Any spurious response is detected in the respective receive channel.

  • Publication number: 20170012761
Abstract: Systems and methods for flexible spectrum, or bandwidth, support in a cellular communications network are disclosed. In one embodiment, a base station for a cellular communications network is configured to transmit a non-standardized bandwidth carrier and information that identifies a standardized bandwidth and additional information that, together with the information that identifies the standardized bandwidth, defines a non-standardized bandwidth of the non-standardized bandwidth carrier. In one embodiment, the additional information defines a bandwidth adjustment for the standardized bandwidth that defines the non-standardized bandwidth. In one embodiment, the bandwidth adjustment is a symmetric bandwidth restriction. In another embodiment, the bandwidth adjustment is an asymmetric bandwidth restriction. In yet another embodiment, the bandwidth adjustment is a symmetric bandwidth expansion. In yet another embodiment, the bandwidth adjustment is an asymmetric bandwidth expansion.

  • Publication number: 20160270047
Abstract: A method for selecting carrier aggregation (CA) configurations includes determining whether a first wireless device is operating or expected to operate using a single carrier configuration on a cell associated with a first frequency band. If the first wireless device is not operating or expected to operate using a single carrier configuration on a cell associated with a first frequency band, a first CA configuration is selected for a second wireless device. If the first wireless device is operating or expected to operate using a single carrier configuration on a cell associated with a first frequency band, a second CA configuration that is more restrictive than the first CA configuration is selected for the second wireless device. An identifier of the selected one of the first CA configuration or the second configuration is transmitted to the second wireless device.

  • Publication number: 20160262111
Abstract: According to some embodiments, a first network node manages a transmit power of a first wireless device capable of device-to-device, D2D, communication. The first network node receives at least one measurement report from at least one of the first wireless device and a second wireless device in D2D communication with the first wireless device. The measurement report indicates a received signal measurement or path loss with respect to the other of the first wireless device and the second wireless device and/or a received signal measurement or path loss with respect to a victim node. The first network node sends the first wireless device instructions to make an adjustment of the transmit power that the first wireless device uses in the D2D communication. The adjustment is at least partially based on the received measurement report.

  • Publication number: 20160174086
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for testing mobile terminals in an OFDMA system, in which all or part of available downlink radio resources in a cell are transmitted. A processing unit in a test apparatus splits a set of contiguous resource blocks into separate contiguous portions. A first contiguous portion of the set of resource blocks is allocated to users of a first type, and a second contiguous portion of the set of resource blocks is allocated to users of a second type. A transmitter in the test apparatus transmits test signals to the users of the first type and the second type using the at least one contiguous set of resource blocks.

  • Publication number: 20160165520
Abstract: A UE transmits a radio access capability to a base station. The radio access capability is transmitted via an information element that comprises a bitmap in which a bit has a value that indicates, to the base station, support of a modification to at least one of a maximum power reduction or a spectrum emission requirement. According to embodiments, the base station manages the UE based on the supported modification. Such managing of the UE may include, for example, one or more of admission control, imposing scheduling restrictions, and imposing handover restrictions.

  • Publication number: 20160095144
Abstract: A method is disclosed for enabling device-to-device, D2D, communication when a communicating device is out of public land mobile network, PLMN, coverage for a first radio access technology, RAT. The method comprises scanning a carrier associated with a carrier predetermined for D2D communication for any signals, and if the scanning determines that D2D communication is present on the carrier, initiating out-of-coverage D2D communication, or if the scanning cannot determine that D2D communication is present on the carrier, determining a signal strength of other signals on the carrier and if the signal strength is below a threshold initiating out-of-coverage D2D communication.

  • Patent number: 9300395
Abstract: The teachings herein provide a number of advantages, including but not limited to improving soft-cell operation in service scenarios involving legacy devices that do not directly support carrier aggregation—i.e., devices that can transmit or receive in only one frequency band at a time. By imposing a Time Division Duplex (TDD) arrangement across two carriers operating in different frequency bands, scheduled transmissions involving the legacy device are mutually exclusive as between the two carriers. Advantageously, the TDD arrangement is imposed across first and second carriers used in the macro- and low-power layers of a soft-cell, thus imposing TDD-based coordination of scheduled transmissions between those carriers irrespective of whether the individual carriers are configured as Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) or TDD carriers, or a mix thereof.

  • Patent number: 9294910
Abstract: A UE indicates its radio access capabilities to the base station. An element is added to the radio access capabilities reported by the UE, to indicate in a release-independent manner if a certain network signaling parameter (e.g., NS-value) has been modified or if a new parameter has been introduced for an operating band. In this manner, the base station can distinguish UE with a modified NS-value behavior from legacy UE for the purpose of admission control, imposing scheduling or handover restrictions, or the like.
