  • Patent number: 6292082
Abstract: An ignition device for an internal combustion engine occupies a small amount of space and is suited for efficient manufacturing. For this purpose, the ignition device has an ignition coil which is designed as a bar ignition coil having a coil former arranged concentrically to a longitudinal axis of the ignition coil, an insulation carrier being coaxially attached to the coil former. The coil former is provided with a winding set, the winding wire of which is continued to the insulation carrier. At this point, an interference suppression element in the form of an inductor is implemented in a continued winding. The ignition device is preferably utilized in motor vehicles.

  • Patent number: 6227186
Abstract: An ignition system for an internal combustion engine is able to operate without malfunctions, even under unfavorable surrounding conditions, in particular intensive attack by spray water. To that end, the ignition system, projecting into a compartment of a cylinder head, is provided with a protective covering in which are formed a connecting duct that is connected to the compartment, and a vent duct leading into the atmosphere. Both ducts are interconnected by a storage of the ignition coil. Water penetrating into the ignition coil is caught in the storage and evaporated in such a way that no malfunctions occur at the ignition coil. The ignition system is preferably used in manufacturing automobiles.

  • Patent number: 6222435
Abstract: A bar-type coil for ignition systems, in particular, for as an ignition coil in internal combustion engines of motor vehicles, is designed to minimize the interference voltage produced by the ignition processes. The bar-type coil has a core, designed as an I-core, a tubular magnetic return plate, and a primary terminal. Mounted in the primary terminal is, in addition to other elements, a first contact element, which is electrically connected to frame potential. The first contact element is part of a line bar, which is electrically connected via a resistance element or via a laminated strip to the tubular magnetic return plate, so that the interference voltage produced is diverted to frame potential. The bar-type coil may be used in automobile manufacturing.
