Patent number: 6516964Abstract: In a fuel tank (1) with a plug which is to be opened, in particular, during maintenance work, a plugging part (6) is fastened in a trough-like depression (2) of the wall of the fuel tank (1) by means of a nut (7). The nut (7) has a thread (9) intended for tapping into a bead (5) of the fuel tank (1). As a result, the fuel tank (1) can be manufactured particularly cost-effectively from geometrically simple parts.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2000Date of Patent: February 11, 2003Assignee: Mannesmann VDO AGInventors: Marc Gerhardt, Christian Kochsmeier, Peter Andreas Löw, Thomas Zapp, Dieter Keller

Patent number: 6510958Abstract: A plastic container comprising two half-shells which are produced by means of injection molding and have parts of the components integrally formed on them during the injection molding. This does away with the need for fastening said components in the plastic container, with the result that the installation process is simplified to a considerable extent. At the same time, installation errors are largely ruled out. The plastic container is suitable for use in motor vehicles, preferably as a fuel tank.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 1999Date of Patent: January 28, 2003Assignee: Mannesmann VDO AGInventors: Peter Andreas Löw, Christian Kochsmeier, Thomas Zapp, Wolfgang Pfahl, Jerome Coulton

Patent number: 6497335Abstract: A filler neck for the introduction of fuel into a fuel tank of a motor vehicle is constructed of at least two interconnected injection-molded half shells, each half shell having outwardly curved regions which form a filler pipe and vent lines. Also, receptacles for valves and filters are integrally formed in the outwardly curved regions.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 1999Date of Patent: December 24, 2002Assignee: Mannesmann VDO AGInventors: Peter Andreas Löw, Christian Kochsmeier, Thomas Zapp, Wolfgang Pfahl

Patent number: 6422213Abstract: A delivery device (2) for delivering fuel, having a delivery pump (3) and a fuel filter (7), has a bypass line (9) which is conducted past the fuel filter (7). When new, the delivery pump (3) delivers fuel through the fuel filter (7). After the fuel filter (7) has become clogged with dirt, the fuel is delivered by the bypass line (9) through a second fuel filter (10). By this means, pollution of the environment with fuel is kept particularly low.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2001Date of Patent: July 23, 2002Assignee: Mannesmann Vdo AGInventors: Bernd Rumpf, Christian Kochsmeier, Dieter Keller, Peter-Andreas Löw

Patent number: 6367503Abstract: A plastic tank comprises a line which is connected at least in certain sections to its wall and is formed in one piece with the plastic tank. For its production, the plastic tank is injection-moulded between a hollow mould and an inner mould inserted into the latter, the mould having a recess, in which a sprue body is formed as the starting material for the line. Before this sprue body can solidify completely, material is blown out from it by means of the internal gas pressure or pressure blowing technique via channels provided in the mould, so that the required line is created there. The lines may be arranged on the outside and/or inside and parallel and/or at an angle to the tank walls.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 2000Date of Patent: April 9, 2002Assignee: Mannesmann VDO AGInventors: Dieter Keller, Martin Maasz, Karl Eck, Christian Kochsmeier

Publication number: 20010042750Abstract: Filler neck for a fuel tank of a motor vehicle Filler necks have, as well as the filler pipe, additional lines for venting, valves and compensating reservoirs. Due to the multiplicity of individual parts and connections, filler necks involve a high outlay in terms of assembly and, because of the connections, have high fuel permeation. The new filler neck is to be easily mountable and have low permeation values.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 29, 1999Publication date: November 22, 2001Inventors: PETER ANDREAS LOW, CHRISTIAN KOCHSMEIER, THOMAS ZAPP, WOLFGANG PFAHL

Patent number: 6269835Abstract: In a pressure-regulating arrangement between a pump and a load, in particular between a fuel pump and an internal combustion engine, in which, if the flow from the pump exceeds a predetermined pressure, a cutoff quantity is branched off and fed back into a storage container, according to the invention the pressure regulator (9), together with the cutoff line (14), is combined with a filter (2) in one structural unit. All three connections (feed (4), flow (7) and cutoff connection (15)) are preferably arranged on the same side of a common housing (1). In a particularly advantageous embodiment, all three connections are arranged coaxially with one another, so that if an appropriate connecting piece is used, installation faults can be ruled out.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 2000Date of Patent: August 7, 2001Assignee: Mannesmann VDO AGInventor: Christian Kochsmeier

Patent number: 6260542Abstract: In a fuel supply system with a main tank (1), with a splash pot (4), with a pump (7) fed from the splash pot and with connecting lines (5, 18) for the pump, according to the invention the latter is arranged in the main tank (1) outside the splash pot (4) and is connected to the latter via at least one suction line (5) integrally formed fixedly onto an inner wall (3) of the main tank. It is particularly advantageous if that portion of the forward-run line (18) which is to be connected to the pump is also integrally formed fixedly onto the inner wall, because the pump can then be fluidically connected very simply and quickly by being plugged on. As a further option, the electric connection (24-27) of the pump can also be made in one operation with the fluidic contacting.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 2000Date of Patent: July 17, 2001Assignee: Mannesmann VDO AGInventors: Christian Kochsmeier, Peter Andreas Löw

Patent number: 6158485Abstract: In the case of a filling device for a motor vehicle fuel tank, a distributing element extends from a filling nozzle to an anti-surge tower of the motor vehicle. When there is a low volume flow of fuel in the filling nozzle, the distributing element supplies all of the fuel to the anti-surge tower. When there is a large volume flow, the greater part of the fuel passes directly into the fuel tank. It is thereby ensured that during an initial filling or emergency filling with a jerrycan, virtually all of the fuel passes into the anti-surge tower.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 1999Date of Patent: December 12, 2000Assignee: Mannesmann VDO AGInventors: Knut Meyer, Peter Andreas Low, Thomas Zapp, Christian Kochsmeier
